The teasing lilt in his voice made her pulse race, and she hated how he could so easily unbalance her. She stayed crouched behind the hedge, clutching her sweater like it could protect her dignity. “I wasn’t spying,” she muttered, half to herself, hoping he wouldn’t press further. But Damon never let her off that easily. He turned toward her fully now, his bare chest glistening faintly with sweat, scars crisscrossing his skin like a history written in flesh. His smirk deepened, that dangerous sort of charm he wore so effortlessly. He took a slow step closer, the gravel crunching beneath his shoes.

"This is what you did to Amaranth, and now I will make sure you suffer the same death!" Luther spread gasoline everywhere. The moment Reya sniffed the distinctive and sharp smell of gasoline, she wrapped herself tightly around his foot. "Luther, are you insane? It’s me, Reya! The girl you love the most!"
