As soon as I touched the books, there was a sharp pain in my head. My ears went numb for a few seconds, but in those few seconds I heard agonising screams, screeches that could tear a soul, cries for help, shouts all mixed and ringing in my head. Some strange images flashed in front of my shut eyes of something that looked like a massacre.

He was lying face down, and face up, all at once. I live in that house now. I am the village "fixer." And every night, I listen to the scratching beneath the floorboards. I don't fear the ones that crawl. I fear the ones that wait. Because now I know that the most terrifying thing in the world isn't death—it’s a corpse that refuses to close its eyes.

He commanded. The creaking against the wall grew stronger, at the same time it felt as if the veins across the book was glowing, pulsing and alive. The sound grew increasingly louder, it was coming from behind the shelf. Then everything suddenly went eerily quiet. “They’re alive…” The library roared with the sound of tearing paper as books leaped off their shelves; their pages opened wide like mouths, letters spilling out while blood sprayed in arcs around them. One book clamped onto Camela’s wrist. She screamed and trembled, but the cover gripped her like sharp teeth. Vincent yanked it off her with a surge of fire coursing through it. “Stay behind me!” he ordered. But when he looked up, hundreds of other books were lifting and floating from the shelves, their pages bleeding and whispering her name.

They were images of blackened houses, broken bodies, and trembling survivors murmuring in fear. “They said they saw… shadows with horns,” Eden whispered. “They said the shadows walked through fire and didn’t burn. They tore through flesh like paper. One old man said he saw a child disappear in the blink of an eye. There was no blood. No scream. Just… gone.” Sophia paled. Her fingers trembled as she reached into the folds of her robe and pulled out a tattered, leather-bound grimoire. She flipped the pages quickly. “I’ve read this before,” she muttered,. “Long ago. When I was a child. The signs… horned shadows, vanishing people, soulless fire. It’s not mortal.”

They went into the dark, red-lighted room, filled with different stench as they strode in quietly and carefully, looking at the creepy scriptures. Suddenly, something horrific jumped out of nowhere with a funny, weird, and creepy sound, startling both of them as they both screamed. They ran out of the section only to be attacked by a group of half-headed, mutilated bodies and bloody-looking creatures. They screamed in fright, kicking them away as they ran through the creepy building that never seemed to end, coming across everything that could give them goosebumps and make their heart nearly jump out of their chests. By the time they were out of the building, they were both panting heavily,

Never did I ever think it would happen. ‘Do you want to try what you've read in books?’ Isis asked, as my heart raced crazily in my chest. “They're just books, Isis.” I whispered, with tears gathering at the corner of my eyes. That was it! I was going to die. The books always said the secret to the three-headed beast with different eyes was simple. You only had to pretend you weren't scared and scratch them behind their ears, but many failed due to their terrifying nature. The moment you ran, you were dead, as they wouldn't wait to consume you bone to pieces.
