Unfortunately, that boat sailed away without Marcy on it. And there was Drake, on that television screen, dashing in a royal-blue suit that matched his eyes which were focused on a female next to him. People called her Alpha Natalia Moonrider, and even though Marcy had never heard of that woman, she looked familiar. Was that Talia’s twin sister or Talia herself? It didn’t matter. Even if that was Talia, Drake’s mate, and Marcy said it, people will ask how she knew and demand proof, and Marcy was not in a position to stir waves.

She introduced Veronica, exchanged a few greetings, and then led the way deeper into the facility. Meanwhile Drake leaned toward Sebastian, walking side-by-side as Sebastian pushed Scarlet’s wheelchair. “She still doesn’t know Franklin was the one who saved her that day, does she?” Drake asked. Sebastian cut him a look that could slice marble. “Do you have a death wish? You say one word of that, and he’ll bury you alive.” Drake just grinned and straightened his already-perfect suit again. “All the better for me. And trust me, I’m planning to woo her. She says she isn’t single. Who exactly is she with?”

I stood there like I was ordered and waited till I was allowed inside. The tension in my body could be felt by anyone around. I looked around to see if I could catch a glimpse of Cade. He assured me that he was going to talk to his mother; it didn't look like he did. He was just like every man—promises and no action to show it. The door opened, and I made to go in. I stopped in my tracks. The lady, before stepping out, looked at me and then scoffed. “Hello ma'am, I couldn't greet you earlier. I'm Scarlett, Cade's fiancee and soon-to-be wife.” I said it innocently, hoping to get better treatment from her. I regretted saying anything immediately.

Can’t you protect her like a younger sister?” Looking at my palm cut open by the gravel, I felt Drake become a stranger for the first time. Now she had returned to the territory and taken over my bedroom again, appearing here as if she were the mistress of the house.

Then she stepped out of the darkness. Scarlett walked from between the crates as if she had been waiting for him all along. She wore a tailored dark suit that cut against the dock’s decay the way a knife cuts through paper. Her posture was nothing if not composed; she did not hurry. Her two men were already there, formed from shadow: Dante and Rico, faces unreadable, rifles slung casually across their chests. The sight of them, the quiet certainty of their presence, made the yard feel smaller.

Crystal was getting dressed. "Psst!" Crystal was startled and turned round. She let out a sigh of relief when she saw it the Duchess. "You've got to stop doing that." Crystal said airily as she styled her long hair to a bun. "I've got to stop doing what?" Rebecca chuckled, "Entering your room unannounced?" "Yes. And scaring me like that." Crystal added. "Well, I should apologize. Don't I?" Rebecca said playfully. "Yes, you should." Crystal answered airily.

Something in his expression caused the hairs on her arms to stand up. She turned. It took a moment for the scene before her to sink in and make sense. Bodies. Blood. So much blood. She heard a thin laugher escape her lips as she tried to fathom his strange and horrifying joke. What was he trying to gain from this?"

SCAR'S POV. Red. Then it's black. Who am I? Who am I? What am I? Kill. Kill her. No....stop it stop talking to me. Moonlight? Where are you? It's like loosing control. The darkness slowly evolving. No... stop. Stop it. Who are you Scarlet...? Control. Everything. Control. Scarlet is Scarlet. (Authors mid-note: it's kinda confusing I know. Bit that's the whole deal. To be confused ;) )
