“I’m… I’m sorry, sir,” he stammered, eyes darting between me and Scott. “The vampires… they’re killed. We can’t find the cure yet.”
Scott did not move at once. He stood still, shoulders relaxed, his stare fixed on the trembling messenger. I watched his jaw tighten, the faintest tick breaking through his calm mask.
“You came into my presence,” Scott said finally, his tone low but hard, “with nothing but excuses. Do you mistake me for a man who tolerates failure?”
