A male, whom I don’t recognize, speaks, his hands roaming my body, reminding me of bricks on my bones, the weight unbearable. Screams of desperation bleeds through the air, an anguished howl echos, bouncing on sound waves. I am not sure where the noise is coming from, but it’s heartbreaking to hear. Instructions are shouted above me, but it’s hard to focus on them when every piece of me is breaking and splitting away. It’s like my essence and soul is being slowly torn from my body, a void fills my heart unlike anything I’ve ever known.

Dread crawls over my skin as the Black Void rents my hospital gown in two, just like he's always done in the past. His fingers come in contact with the skin of my breasts and I squeal. "No, no! Stop, please!!" He doesn't stop. I scream till I pass out.

None of it matters. I scream, not for someone in particular. Just loud, guttural. Like I’m on fire, like I’m possessed. Maybe a bear would even hear me and help. I scream until my lungs burn but it does nothing. The males carry me into the woods, and no amount of kicking or thrashing is going to stop them.

What if he slipped into this void and never saw her. He forced them open wider, even as the light burned. “Aveline,” he shouted. His voice vanished instantly, swallowed by the void. No echo. No resonance. As if the place ate sound. He gritted his teeth. His eyes stung. He clenched his fists so tightly his nails cut into his palms. He tried again, louder. “Aveline. Answer me.” The windless void shuddered. A ripple passed through the white field like a wave across a lake.

A scream escaped my throat and at the same time, the black void cracked apart. “Make them pay!”

The sound wave hit my eardrums, vibrating in my molars. "The tyrants are broken! The Sky City belongs to the people!" The refugees shifted. Their scent—a mixture of salt-sweat, fear-pheromones, and adrenaline—thickened in the air. They looked at Kaine. Then they looked at me. I walked toward him. My knees were weak, but I forced my muscles to lock. My bare feet sank into the cold, abrasive grit of the Wastes. "Kaine," I said. I used the harmonic resonance of the Void. My vocal cords vibrated at a frequency that bypassed the ear and settled directly in the sternum.

I am left screaming into the void, my grief and pain echoing through the empty room. In the depths of my anguish, I unleash a primal scream that reverberates through the room. It tears through the air, an anguished cry escaping from the depths of my soul. I screamed and continued to cry as my body floated, falling steadily towards the bottom of the void. I opened my voice. A scream ripped through my throat with terrible pressure. Light came in and then struck me brutally. I widened my eyes, starting to scream again- "ISA!" the low, heavy voice made me flinch.

It’s clear to me that I have no intention of falling for him but why do I feel something’s wrong in my mind and why do I suddenly feel an emptiness in my heart as if I am missing someone in my life. I sadly gaze at my knee; I've observed that it has stopped bleeding, but it's still a little sore. I looked for a handkerchief in my coat pocket to cover my legs, but I think I misplaced it, so I panicked and hastily looked for the cufflink in it as well. I smiled when I touched it inside my pocket! I suddenly realized the scarf on my neck, maybe will help to stop me from trembling in cold. I put my hands on it and untied it from my neck.
