My eyes fluttered open, the agony ebbing away. The arch of my back loosened, my legs no longer trembling. I could finally breathe. I pushed to my feet, testing my weight, and managed a smile. “Thank you.”
Gluttony rolled his eyes. “Don’t thank me. It’s just the privilege of being the heir. I wouldn’t lift a finger for anyone else.”
We spoke a little longer before one by one they slipped back into the shadows, leaving only Envy and Lust behind. Lust was already drifting toward sleep, his pout still on his lips.
