In The Dark

In The Dark

I don’t have much food left and I’m starting to have to fill up my water bottles in the sink. Maybe they’ll just leave me here to starve, I thought. No, they said they wanted me, they have to want me for something … sex? I mean they hadn’t so far tried anything but what the hell else could they want? I took a lot of showers, since it was about the only time I felt normal. It was the only time I could close my eyes and feel like I was escaping, like I was home. I had been asleep for a while, there was no way to know how long. When I woke up it was pitch black in the room, those fuckers cut off the light!

KLH
Another good story by this author! I do wish there was a little more at the end because it did feel a little rushed. But other than that, I truly enjoyed reading this story. I highly recommend both stories by this author! They’re very detailed, flow perfectly, and keep you wanting more. Awesome job!

Literally one of the best books on this app. This is one of those few books that I could actually read again! Totally unique plot. You think it’s going in a certain direction and then it switches up keeping you interested. Total page turner. And FANTASTIC/SEXY love story!

Her Darkness, His Light

Her Darkness, His Light

I could still feel it and it wasn't pleasant at all. It felt like a warning. Like the worst had yet to come. Like a kind of darkness that consumes your emotions. That night was darker than ever. I didn't feel like talking to anyone and went straight to bed. Too much had happened today. Just too much. ============================ Your thoughts on the Dark Prince? 🤔🤔🤔

In the Darkness of City Blocks

In the Darkness of City Blocks

Streams of dark energy before our eyes evaporated under the influence of sunlight. The car pulled up to the lair as the sunrise took on a warm, pale yellow hue. Dynamic shadows adorned the unsightly building. The uneven texture was embellished with a deep contrast of chiaroscuro. At this time, the shadows are especially strong. The thought of the Shadows suddenly passed through the mind of the werewolf. Distrust of the world around him jumped up again, or Baruz simply did not like the dawn, one way or another he stopped the car, carefully looked around. Having sniffed and found nothing suspicious, he got out of the car. Heavy boots with high lacing strode into the right wing of the building.

Under the Cover of Darkness

Under the Cover of Darkness

“Nope. No bright clothes either. This is the real me.” “Well, the real you is stunning. I can't imagine why you would want to conceal her in the first place.” She gave me a sad smile. “I really hope you still feel that way by the end of tonight.” Before I could begin to decode what that could possibly mean, she took hold of one of my hands. “Come. I want to show you something.” We started off down the dark street lit up only by a row of street lamps, the evening wind nipping at our ears and the moon a fuzzy halo in the dark sky.

The Rejected Luna’s Secret Crown

The Rejected Luna’s Secret Crown

"Your mind is trying to process an entire world all at once. We’ll block the windows. We’ll find a quiet room in the inner keep." "I can't hide in a dark room, Elara." He opened his eyes. The gold in them was fractured, restless. "If I go back into the dark, I don't know if I'll be able to find my way out again." Before I could answer, a shadow fell over us. It wasn't a cloud. The sunlight in the Vantablack vanished, replaced by a massive, sweeping darkness that moved across the city blocks below. Ashren tensed, stepping in front of me, a low growl tearing from his throat.

The Billionaire's Secret Surrogate

The Billionaire's Secret Surrogate

I tried to answer, to tell him to get up, to make sense of the spinning lights, but the world folded over me like a closing book. I went down. The last thing I registered before the dark closed in was the shape of the truck’s grill, monstrously close, and the staccato beat of a heart far too loud to be mine. Then nothing but a roar and the tidy, awful finality of falling. ~~~ Light. Too much of it. It burned against my eyelids like fire, dragging me out of the kind of darkness that didn’t feel like sleep — more like nothingness. The air around me hummed with machines, sterile and cold, and my body felt… wrong. Heavy. Distant.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Afterdark' has this eerie, magnetic pull that I can't shake off—it's like stepping into a world where shadows whisper secrets. The story follows a journalist who stumbles upon a hidden underground society thriving in perpetual darkness after sunset. What hooked me wasn't just the mystery but how the author blurs morality—characters aren't just heroes or villains; they're survivors clinging to their own twisted sense of light. The pacing feels like a slow-burn thriller, but those last chapters? Pure adrenaline.

What really stuck with me was the symbolism. The way darkness isn't just absence of light but a living, breathing entity—it reminded me of 'Annihilation' meets 'Neverwhere'. There's a chapter where the protagonist trades their flashlight for a vial of luminescent fungi, and that moment captures the whole theme: sometimes you have to embrace the unknown to really see.
