The air was sucked out of my lungs, leaving me gasping in a darkness so thick it felt like physical weight.
"Kaima! Kaima, answer me!" Rowan’s voice was a frantic rasp.
"I’m here," I choked out, pushing myself up.
A torch flickered to life on the wall, and then another, revealing a circular chamber made of damp green stone. We were deep underground, beneath the City of the Seam. The walls were lined with thousands of glass jars, and inside each one was a small, pulsing light.
"The Tailor’s pantry," a voice echoed.
