She's done dozens of these interviews. "What's your angle?" "I'm writing about the women who led the integration. You, Master Valentina, High Priestess Moira, Elena Silverclaw the Elder. The female leaders who don't get as much attention as the alphas and council members."

"Where did you wake up and around what time of the year?" Serena thought for a while. "I don't know my age so I don't know but I have been counting since I woke up. This year would be the twentieth year since I woke up from the hospital." That matches the number of years that Serena lost her life. Eleanor covered her mouth as tears built up in her eyes. She looked at Serena who looked worried. "Are you okay?" Serena asked her. She shook her head and slowly sat on the ground.

Sera sat on her bathroom sink and began to apply her makeup. Her long platinum hair was already curled and hung by her waist. She took the time to use just a little more brown eye shadow around her gray eyes. She didn't own much makeup, just a tiny four-color pallet, peachy blush, mascara, and neutral pink lipstick. She never really needed such things; even then, her cosmetics only cost her five dollars.

She glares at him and he stops immediately. “I'm sorry.” Wyatt lays a hand on my arm but I pull away. He huffs, clearly annoyed but he listens to his mom and says nothing. We all sit in silence until the nice nurse comes into the room. I notice for the first time that she's a short and slightly plump woman, with a beautiful face and kind smile. She's African American and has a lovely complexion. She could easily be a movie star with her remarkable features. I'd place her in her thirties but no later. But it's her name tag that catches my attention.

~ Vivienne's POV The woman's name was Sera. I learned that afterward, from a document Lorenzo's people prepared as part of the arrangement, a single page that outlined the terms and the timeline and the specifics of what had been agreed. Sera Montez, forty-three years old, contracted cleaning staff, eleven years with the same company. I read the page once and then set it down and did not pick it up again, but the name stayed with me in the way that things stay when you have looked at someone's face while something significant was being done to them.
