Jasmine whined and pressed against my leg again.
“Do you not recognize her?” Syrenthia asked. Her voice curled like frost on glass. “Your sister.”
My knees nearly buckled. Mavis.
A rush of air swirled around me, and though I could not see, I knew. The presence was unmistakable, even cloaked in silence. Memories of laughter, of shared secrets, of bitter fights and unspoken forgiveness; all of them hit me like shards of ice.
I reached out with trembling fingers. My hands touched something solid, unyielding. Smooth and terribly cold. Ice.
