I was shocked at how much I was enjoying watching Sheila move. Something stirred within me. Something like awe, wonder or admiration. Sheila was really pretty, so beautiful if only she let herself see how attractive she was. Skin like smooth alabaster. Flawless. Perfect. Crowned and adorned with a thick mass of lustrous ginger hair that shone and danced in the dim light. Her eyes...God. Her eyes were her best features. A unique mix of greenish grey that made the sun walk with pride and the ocean, sing their song.

I roared, coughing up more blood onto the concrete. Grey didn't answer. He just raised his hand, signaling toward the stairs. Two of his massive guards came down into the light. One of them was holding a heavy iron rod. The tip of it was glowing a bright, furious red, heat waves visibly shimmering in the cold basement air. My breath hitched. My good eye went wide as the primal terror finally broke through my anger. "No..." the word left my mouth before I could stop it. "No! Stay the fuck away from me!"

Something that smelled like it could strip paint. "You look like you're about to either cry or kill someone." The voice was low. Unhurried. The kind of voice that didn't ask for your attention – it just took it. "Either way, you need something stronger than that." I looked up. Steel grey eyes. The kind of grey that wasn't soft – wasn't misty or gentle or any of the words people used to make grey sound pretty. This grey was a knife edge. A frozen lake. The color of something that could cut you if you touched it wrong.

HIS DARKEST SHADE BOOK-THREE ~Prologue~ “Even if you end up hating me for it.” His tone was vicious. “I might scare you,” he continued, his gaze roaming over her trembling form, “but they are far worse—formidable, vicious… and willing to do whatever it takes to get what they want.” He gestured toward her. “Including you.” “Never.” She shook her head, her voice trembling but firm. “I’m not scared of your words. You’re just trying to scare me so I’ll listen to you!”

He asked, immediately taking notice to Aaron's hair. Aaron felt pleased, for some strange reason. "Blonde is bold, you know." He tried joking. "You mean black?" Adrian asked. "Blonde is bold," Aaron said. "Black is a rebel, while brown, is... In the gray. Just like yours." "Mine. Right." He ran his hand through his hair. "But I still like blonde hair. I think I might get mine dyed soon." Clearly it was the liquor talking, but Aaron felt the urge to just squeal like some cheerleader who just a thank you letter from her jocky crush.

And set my shades on my head. “You good, Cuz?” He asks, curiously. He knew that I’d been looking for her too. I nod. He looks at me, skeptically. “You sure? Because your eyes are grey.” Oh! Shit. I have no idea why. But my eyes change color depending upon my mood. Grey when I’m horny. Green when I’m pissed off. Brown when I’m sad. And blue when I’m happy. I know, weird right? I give him a stern look, like: ‘Leave it alone, Vic!’ I put my shades back on. He throws up his hands in surrender.

The driver then activated the scanner of the carriage and extracted some energy from him. There were levels in terms of shadows and with each upgrade, it acquires a color. There’s a shade of pebble-black, midnight-black, sable-black, and obsidian-black, respectively. Each level-up means additional thousand to their bank account. The system was pretty tricky. They’re converting a shadow’s energy into currency and using it to acquire basic needs, which was why the levels of shadows increase and decrease day by day. “Happy?” said George after he unsummoned his shadow.

The next chain of events I regretted instantly, and wished I had never listened to Coal. “All right! Let's meet your wolf,” Grayson said as he closed his laptop, pushed back his chair, and stood. “You don't know how much I needed this break,” Grayson said as he began walking around his desk, obviously expecting that we were going outside. I gave Coal one last pleading look, only for him to mouth the word “now”. I don't know why I listened to him, but I did. I dropped the walls that held Shade back. As Grayson rounded his desk, he looked up and stopped when he saw Shade's red eyes and the smoke barreling from my body.

However, as time unfolded, she began to discern the various hidden aspects of his character, previously concealed within the depths of his dark, obsidian eyes. The unpredictability of his shades was such a confounding storm and nerve-wracking to even realise what to comprehend from it. Unaware of when or how it happened, she found herself falling for him without having any reality of it. The moment was indefinable, occurring without warning, without a care in the world as sudden and unforeseen as a storm in the clearest of days.
