Shinjuku claps once. CLAP. The shadows along the cave walls detach, crawling upward like liquid ink. [SEISAJU] (calm, warning) Shinjuku. Don't provoke him too fast. [SHINJUKU] Too late. Shadow constructs LUNGE. Arkcadis steps forward. Each footstep leaves burning sigils etched into the ice. He raises one hand— CELESTIAL BEAM erupts forward, pure gold-white. The beam PIERCES three shadow creatures, VAPORIZING them mid-motion.

It seems like I’m actually watching a real fighting scene in an anime. A mixture of blue and yellow light comes out from the hand of the man who told me I was ‘stupid’ earlier, while the shadow man has a black aura coming out of his body. But it’s hard to believe they were real. Magic? Ugh, it doesn’t exist in this world. “You’re right, Ashburn. You were just dreaming. You probably won't be hurt by what they are doing because it's your dream,” I said, convincing myself that these were all product of my imagination.

But that wasn’t what he was drawing today. There was a picture of two girls—rendered crudely in crayon, but still identifiable as girls. One of them had short blond hair and the other had long brown braids. Their hands were on their faces and their mouths open in screams. David had drawn these as big black circles. A huge black shadow hovered before them, a shapeless body with red eyes and clearly defined hands. The hands looked like long silver knives. There were many drawings before this one. Lauren wondered how long David had been at it.
