Samantha still couldn’t forgive the old geezer—now deceased—who had limped the old Alpha, Caleb’s father. If there was a second chance, Samantha wished that she was the one who had harmed Hank Kasun. She wanted to throttle him herself. This was because he instigated the Great War that had dwindled the members of Shadow Pack. There was another movement again in the dark shrubbery to her right. Samantha was looking around, trying to figure out what animals lay behind it for she could not see right through the shrubbery. The sun had gone down over the horizon hence the dim lights were limiting her acute sight.

That was when something wholly unexpected happened. She was reaching for the were's chains again when she saw the darkness around her hands begin to grow . . . deeper. Yes, "deeper" was the only thing that made sense. Shamira could see in any darkness, except that blackness which now encircled her hands resisted even her vision. Total darkness, cold and hard. Allan’s shadow manipulation guided them, his control over the darkness creating a clear path. They finally reached the heart of the fortress, where the Shadow Relic, a dark, pulsating orb, sat atop a pedestal. The room was filled with an oppressive energy, the shadows swirling around them. Kai stepped forward, his hand reaching for the relic. As his fingers brushed the surface, the shadows in the room seemed to come alive, forming into a massive, dark figure. The figure spoke, its voice a deep, echoing growl. “You seek the power of the Shadow Relic, but you must prove your worth. Face me, and show that you are worthy.”

“They’re not ghost stories. They’re warnings.” Grammy gave a single, firm nod. “Shadowcraft is older than the packs, older than even the vampires’ first kings. It’s a magic designed to unmake bonds, to unravel the tether between flesh and spirit. Whoever is using it isn’t just stealing your mates. " I choked out, clutching the manuscript against my chest as I backed away until my spine hit the cold stone wall. ​Gabriel smiled—a slow, terrifying curve of his lips as he stepped into the dim beam of light. ​"I told you before, little bird," Gabriel whispered, reaching out to take the corner of the parchment from my trembling hands. "There is nowhere in this town where my shadow can not reach."

The blood starts pouring out of my mouth uncontrollably, I cough while splashes of blood defile the ground under me. “Don't be scared, I'm not going to hurt you”, the shade rubs the back of its hand down my cheek, “I'm just going to drain your body of its worthless life”. The shadow figure laughed maniacally in my face. I sense the thirst for blood and the hatred towards me. I start to turn to run, but my body immediately falls limp. I start to military crawl, dragging my legs across the floor.

A rewrite? She turned back to Aurex. “What is the Shadow?” Aurex's form trembled slightly, glitches flashing across his frame. “It was once a safeguard. Now it’s a parasite. It was born from your world’s need to control the flame—born to mirror the Inverted. But it has no host. It mimics. It consumes. And now, it’s found a spark worth devouring.” “You mean me,” she said coldly. “No. Not just you.”
