The dawn rose, but it felt like mourning. Light cut through the shattered windows of the Vale estate, painting the marble floor in streaks of pale gold. Dust lingered in the air, catching the sun like a thousand restless ghosts. Maxim stood there, shoulders squared, gaze fixed on the horizon as though sheer will might force it to bend. Behind him, workers moved like shadows—hauling debris, hammering beams into place, dragging away remnants of the battle that had nearly consumed their world.

“I’m freaking confused about this whole thing. It’s like someone’s out there playing puppet master with my damn love life. First Edward’s drama, now this anonymous message telling me to stay away from Zavala. Like, what the actual fuck?” Dawn just sighs. She’s stretched out across my hotel bed in her hoodie, one leg hanging off the side, a protein bar half-eaten in her hand and her laptop open. A sleek, military-grade looking black device hums beside her. Some hacker gadgets I do not even want to ask about. Probably illegal. Probably expensive. Definitely sexy.

Faris I woke up to sun shining on my face. The morning brightness waking me up. I got up and sat on the bed, eyes still closed because of over drinking last night. I felt hung over and my head was aching. I roamed my hand on the night stand to get my mobile, it has always been my habit to check my mail early morning from work and start then start out my day with working out. I couldn't find find my mobile or my nightstand.

It was time to move on. The Shadows convulsed and oozed towards the urn with a ravenous intensity. But before I could change my mind, they engulfed it… shattering it into 1,000 pieces. Silver and black shards exploded into the air, piercing my chest and scattering across the room like a dark, malevolent rain. I fell to my knees as my heart shattered, once again, the shards piercing my very soul. I clasped my hand over my heart, struggling to draw breath, and fought to stem the tide of tears that threatened to overwhelm me.

“No movement outside.” I hovered over the keyboard, my finger shaking above the button. Twenty seconds. Then— The lights flickered. The walls trembled. A single *bang* echoed through the night. And the door exploded inward. --- Gunfire erupted. I hit the ground as bullets tore through the motel. Damien’s men. They had found us. Carter fired back, but he was weak. Michael grabbed him, shoving him behind cover. “Winnie, hit the damn button!” I crawled toward the laptop, heart pounding.

First I lost my mom and then my brother and now my freedom. There was another turbulence and this time I hit my head so hard and passed out. A splash of water jolts me up, I look around and notice there are over a hundred girls inside the container with me. Another splash of water and I turn around, facing the source, it’s a man, with a scar on his face. The container doors have been opened, so light is making its way in. I look beside me and notice a girl still sleeping, I try to wake her and notice her body is as cold as ice, I shake her again and notice she might have bled out, there is a cut in her head and her hair was soaked in her blood.

--- The Shardfall is aptly named. It's a region where the fabric of Lunareth itself seems to have come undone—massive chunks of land floating in midair, connected by bridges of solidified magic that shimmer like glass. Some of the islands are stable, anchored by ancient obelisks that hum with power. Others drift slowly through the air, their paths unpredictable and dangerous. Below them all, visible through gaps in the floating landmasses, is the Core Sea—that luminous blue-white abyss that marks the heart of the Shattered Sphere.

Now it remembers you. Sienna’s mark flared white-hot. Pain seared up her arm. The light spilling from the shard enveloped her entirely, burning silver against the dawn. She screamed his name once more. The shard shattered. Light erupted across the clearing , blinding, pure, endless. And from its heart came a howl that split the sky.

A crack in the wall I had built around my heart. Maybe one day that crack would grow into something bigger. But today, it was just a crack.
