Layna shifted uncomfortably, her unease palpable, as The Shadows closed in, their icy, unforgiving energy enveloping us like a shroud. The Shadows' presence was a balm to my fractured soul, a beacon of hope in the darkness. I knew they possessed the power to revive Roxy, to defy even death itself. The only unknown was the terrible price they would exact in return. I held out my sliced palm, offering them the payment they demanded.

Rai whispered. Shane took a deep breath. He knows that he has to calm down, but he can’t help it. The joy of finally being Reiner’s was lost because he remembered his mission and now Reiner apologized to ‘Sheinna’ showing that he became softer to ‘Sheinna’. Shane knew that it got to do with him finally giving Reiner an explanation for his disappearance and now they are together. But, as long as he turned into ‘Sheinna’, Shane can never be happy. I get off the bed and take a knee as she sits up. “I, Shane of the Dark Moon pack, swear to follow you, Adea Biscoff of the Clear Mountain pack, for an eternity. Then a crescent-shaped moon appeared on Sheila’s wrist, so as in Alain’s hand—the one that Sheila is clinging to. Alain knew there’s no turning back. The mark of an Unbreakable Oath has already appeared on his wrist—painful and searing, he knew he shall keep his word forever or else he shall meet his death the moment he breaks the promise. “This shall be our Unbreakable Oath.” Sheila stared at him, smiling as if it would be her last. Her smile was like a disaster. But still, it was very appealing to Alain’s soul. “This shall be our Unbreakable Oath.” That was more of a statement than a reply to hers.

“You won’t have to. I made my vow tonight to swear my fealty to Ashborne and to you as my Alpha.” She leans in and I automatically follow. She presses a chaste kiss against my mouth and I move forward as she pulls back, wanting more. But she puts a hand on my chin, keeping me in place. “I’m making another vow to you now. Not as my Alpha, but as the person that has my heart. I promise that I’ll stay with you. I don’t want to be a weakness of yours, Shawn. I want to be your strength. I want to help you build and grow. And I want to experience every new adventure by your side.”

He stated and everyone cheered. The priest recited the vows and asked that we say it after him, we did, but I could see the reluctance in Rosalind’s voice, I wanted her to say it like she wanted it, with all sincerity but she was only building up rage within me with her reluctance. Then, he turned to me. “Do you, Shawn, take Rosalind, to be your lawfully wedded wife, to stand with her in happiness, sadness, pain, wealth and for the rest of your life?”

"I'm offering a transaction. A simple exchange." My hands stayed at my sides. "I'm not interested in whatever….." "Marry me." The words hung in the air between us like smoke. For a moment, I thought I'd misheard him. Had to have misheard him. "Excuse me?" "Marry me," he repeated, slower this time, like I was a child who needed extra help understanding. "A legal marriage. Binding contract. You become Mrs. Marchetti, play the role of devoted wife in public, and in exchange, I erase every debt your family owes. I secure your sister's future. I restore the Ashford name to its former glory."

The woman I had loved for so many years had deceived me and given birth to another man's child, yet she kept demanding me not to overreact. "We're done. The wedding is off," I stated icily. With a loud crash, Rhiannon smashed the teacup in front of her. The shards flew up and cut my forehead. She screamed, "Why can't you try to understand me? I don't want to owe Lionel anything. She regarded me for a while, then shrugged. “Did you think it's that easy to destroy?” I lifted a brow. “What do you mean?” “I may agree to break it, but will it?” She read the confusion in my eyes and smirked. “I'm afraid that there's nothing we can do about it. The destruction of our vows is impossible. We did not just take an ordinary oath, dear. We took a dark oath, and it can't be broken. It's for eternity. Whether we both consent to it or not, there's no way out.”
