Maybe today wasn’t going to be so bad after all. We walked over to the table, and as we got closer, I saw there was already someone sitting there—a really pretty girl who looked like she could be in a magazine or one of those fashion ads on TV. She had smooth, dark brown skin that looked soft and glowing, and her hair was done in long, neat braids that fell perfectly over her shoulders. She wore a light purple sweater with small sparkles on it, paired with ripped jeans and white sneakers. Everything about her screamed confidence and style, like she knew exactly how to look good without even trying.

“I’m not using much strength either. It’s mostly you moving yourself.” She was wearing regular clothes instead of a suit today. The bun she usually donned was let loose for once. Ever since her husband passed, she put away her flashy accessories too, but today, she had taken them out and put them on. With her delicate makeup, she looked like a young woman in her early twenties. It was hard to tell she was a mother in her thirties to a nine-year-old son. When she left this morning, her son complimented her on how beautiful she looked today.

"Be patient, okay? Just wear my jacket for now. I can't have a gorgeous girl like you catching a cold. If you really want to find a skin to wear so badly, we can go hunt for one tomorrow." She lifted her twisted, mangled face. "Really?" "Of course. I'd never lie to you." I lifted her chin and said, marveling, "By the way, that lipstick color is amazing! The second I saw it, I was hooked. You've got excellent taste." [What the heck? The bloody lady just put away the hair she uses to twist heads off! And now, she's standing in the corner like a little girl. And… Is she blushing? Is she seriously shy right now?!]

she quips sheepishly. “Well... to me, it’s the opposite. Because of her I don’t use my phone much these days and believe me life is way better..” I will choose Coco over my phone any day. “So, how was your day today?” Unsure again, but I answer anyway, “Had a real good hockey practice match today,” I say. Her smile gets uncomfortable again. But she nods. “Nice weather it is..” she says after a while.

she said so emphatically that I laughed weakly. She looks cute today because she's wearing a pastel hoodie partnered with black pajamas. I always see her wearing black clothes like there's always a funeral. Seeing her with pastel colored clothes makes me want to pinch her cheeks because of cuteness. Okay, remember Warren that she's a dangerous woman. "Coming right away," I said still laughing so she snorted because he seemed to be annoyed. "Do you really have to push her?" I asked and looked at Xeri who's watching us.

"Serena, at a time like this, can you not be so cute? I... can’t handle it!" ***

She would not normally give a damn about her looks , but today is an excuse to be vain. “I have a feeling that the Rogues are getting impatient and burning your house down is just the beginning.” “Of what?” “Honey, the real battle is about to begin. You better buckle up, because I am betting my bottom dollar that Quentin is upping the ante today. That is why he got you another teacher.” Perhaps that was the case. She was more bothered of how her brows looked like today. Will they need plucking or were her lips too dry and needed chapstick? Will lipstick be acceptable?

“Sorry, man. Didn’t know she was married.” “Now you know,” I muttered, sliding in beside her. She turned on me instantly. “Why would you chase off a nice man like that?” I stared at her, hard. “Because you’re cheap-minded enough to smile like a fool when a stranger calls you ‘princess.’” Her lips curled. “Any man but you.” The words landed heavier than they should’ve. I looked at her. And God help me... why did she look beautiful today? I see her every day. But today? Today she was radiant.

she nods with a wince, then gets up. “I’m about to indulge in some romcom with ice cream. Want to join?” It’s then I notice—she has little sugar in her body today. The usual vibrant hazel is a bit dull, and there are red blotches around her eyes. My heart aches. I don’t even know this girl, but I prefer her happy over sad. “You sure sugar is what you need?” I decide to tease, but move to get up and head to the kitchen. “What flavor do you want?” I ask, opening the fridge.

She finally spoke after few seconds of silence but still I didn't reply. I quietly huffed, stopping on my tracks. We were some distance away from the Packhouse but the loud party and meaningless chatterings could still be heard. I huffed again, getting a good look at her once again. Her face was beautiful and bright. Her light brown hair fell down past her shoulders in wavy curls. The pleasant glow of the sun's light momentarily falling on her as it took a bow at her beauty. She was simply beautiful in her flowery yellow dress. But above all, she had a powerful glow of happiness. Frankly, I have never seen her so brightly as today. Weirdly, a part of me felt happy watching her euphoria.
