A woman appeared from the pantry, older, maybe early sixties, with warm brown eyes and graying hair pulled into a bun. She smiled when she saw me.
"Oh good, you're awake! I'm Tessa Hollings, the housekeeper. I've been taking care of this place and Owen since he was a boy." She set a bowl of steaming soup in front of me along with thick slices of bread. "Eat up, dear. You need your strength."
"Thank you," I said, suddenly starving. The soup was delicious, rich and hearty with vegetables and tender chunks of meat.
