As she shifts her weight forward, the hem of her sweatpants rides up higher on her left leg. My eyes track the movement instinctively, catching sight of the waterproof athletic tape wrapped tightly around the back of her left ankle. I’ve seen the tape before. I always assumed it was a swimming injury–Achilles tendonitis or a chlorine rash. But she’s been running herself into the ground. She hasn't been sleeping. Her hands are shaking.
