The Final Portrait
"No, we didn't…"
Chris knew that I loved sunflowers because they reminded me of the sun and its warmth, and symbolized living towards the light.
Sometimes, people longed for their own special ray of light, after staying in the darkness for too long. Perhaps we were all wildflowers and weeds growing in the shadows, but as long as we lived every day reaching for the light, things would change one day, and the light would come shining through.
I used to joke that if we were sacrificed in the line of duty, we'd find cemeteries filled with sunflowers so that we'd never get lost. The path would be filled with shadows, but we'd always be able to see the light.
