I don't have a body anymore, I am a spirit. It's as if I've been beleaguered by thousands of armies. I can't see them. I can feel them looming closer and closer. I shrink back and let out a blood curdling scream, like a siren. Only that I'm not leading anyone to destruction, I, myself am walking through a path of destruction. Why is silence so noisy?

I press my hand to her chest, begging for a sign—any sign. For a long moment, there is nothing. Only the heavy silence of her still body and the crushing weight of my own heartbeat. Then, her energy—the faint whisper of her soul—flickers. And just as quickly as it came, it fades again, leaving me in the quiet shadow of her silence.

Later that night, Sophia picked up her phone. She saw the Seen on his last message. The one that said: “I miss you.” Her thumb hovered over the screen. She wanted to reply. Wanted to call. Wanted to tell him she was sorry. But she didn’t. Because she was still waiting. Not for grand gestures. Not for promises. Just for him to fight. To realize that silence isn’t protection. It’s distance. And distance breaks hearts. And as she lay in the dark, the phone glowing in her hands, she whispered into the quiet:

“ Meara!” The whispers started again, soft but notable. I tensed, my eyes snapping open. I scanned the field, but there was no one in sight. The sound seemed to come from the tree itself, from the rustling of its leaves. I pressed my palms against the rough bark and closed my eyes, focusing on the whispers. " Come... find... me..." The words were faint but distinct. My heart raced. Was I losing my mind, or was there something more to these whispers? I stood up, brushing the dirt off my jeans, and took a few steps back. The whispers grew louder, more insistent.
