Only the shadowy silhouettes of our men roamed the brown mist, but the explosion had awakened other things in The Darkness as well. “Kill yourself,” A woman’s vile whisper scratched my ears and I whipped my head in a messy circle, realizing only half-burning corpses surrounded me. Ghoul voices. It was one of the things I hated about The Darkness. My mind was already dark enough as it was…having someone else inside it, scurrying around like tiny ants…well that was downright mortifying. “Soldiers! Assemble!” I roared, and the deafening din of my Alpha voice seemed to sweep away the fog of brown mist in The Darkness.

“I’m not who you thought I was.” A long pause. “Who are you?” he asked quietly. I held his gaze steadily. “Isla Hale. Daughter of Alpha Magnus Hale of the Crescent Moon Pack.” Recognition dawned slowly. The Crescent Moon Pack was ancient. Strategic. Powerful. “You hid that from me.” “Yes.” “Why?” “Because I wanted someone to love me without my title.” The words were honest. Bare. “And now?” he asked. “Now I know what I was loved for.” His jaw tightened.

Amidst the radiance of the laughter ringing out from behind the shadows, the gentleness of her voice when she was not taut. The hollow in her eyes. He got a glass of water and glared at the wall between them. And didn't move. There was a noise. Whispery. Muffled. A scream. He pressed his ear against the wall. A scream—a long gasp for breath. But unmistakably Sienna's. His heart skipped a beat. Not going to be swayed, he pulled on his hoodie, hauling it down over his head, and moved stealthily out into the corridor.

I returned the kiss and put my hands in his hair. He immediately walked me backwards until I was falling over the bed. We ripped off each other’s clothes with abandon and he whispered in my ear, “here’s something new little girl, how quiet can you be?”

A chilling voice fanned against my neck. I spun around. Seeing the dark haired man I saw from earlier. I flashed him a glare before dashing into the crowd. Only to be yanked back suddenly. My head spun in protest as I was now nearly sprawled against him. He had grabbed my wrist! The nerve of this guy! He chuckled “Love, lest me I remind you.” I felt him move closer his lips now brushing my ear. “Don’t move.” His commanding voice came from behind me once more. I replied by growling at him. Flashing my elongated canines in his face. “Release me, you bastard!” I hissed squirming.

"Your existence is destructive, you'll bring disasters in the life of your loved ones" I cried my heart out, the fear absorbed me, but the dreadful voice seemed to neglect my suffering and continued "you traitor! Murderer! Wait for your karma to destroy you as you destroyed them," The voice kept on echoing. I covered my ears in horror. I screamed but I couldn't find a single soul that could offer me a helping hand. It was like I was half awake. As though I was there, but not really. I could feel the jostling and movement, but my head felt so heavy and sore. I could feel myself drifting in and out of nothingness. From the darkness, I heard a howl. It almost seemed to confirm my demise. I tried harder to escape the dark prison I was in. The tiniest shaft of glowing light entered my mind. I tried harder still when I heard another howl, but it seemed to be further away.

“ Meara!” The whispers started again, soft but notable. I tensed, my eyes snapping open. I scanned the field, but there was no one in sight. The sound seemed to come from the tree itself, from the rustling of its leaves. I pressed my palms against the rough bark and closed my eyes, focusing on the whispers. " Come... find... me..." The words were faint but distinct. My heart raced. Was I losing my mind, or was there something more to these whispers? I stood up, brushing the dirt off my jeans, and took a few steps back. The whispers grew louder, more insistent.

Just darkness and shadows and in the shadows, Elara noticed a dark figure walking towards her. Fear crippled her, locking her to the spot she was standing in. The dark figure continued to approach, closer, closer till it was almost right in front of her. Elara sat upright in bed, drenched in sweat, her chest heaving. She was awake! Elara knew she was awake, but the darkness did not seem to leave. The whispers weren’t fading when she woke. Instead of retreating, they sharpened, they became louder, so loud, she could hear every distinct word.
