The bruise on my face had been expertly hidden by makeup. Alistair undoubtedly didn't want to be labeled as an abusive partner. It had been cleverly concealed to the point where it seemed like there was nothing amiss in the first place. Finally, the time had come to leave. Putting on my mask, crafted into the shape of a black butterfly with sparkly stones embedded around the edges, I walked out of my room and began descending the stairs.

Magnificent, long white wings with a golden undertone. How is this possible? Was this what caused the pain? It has to be. The wings were huge. They moved like I could move my hands. I stretched them and they hit the wall on one side and the other side expanded up to over seven feet. The part connected to my back was golden and then it slowly shaded into a pure white colour. They looked...heavenly. My hands reached out to touch them. Soft. So soft. They were the softest thing I had touched in my entire life.

River's hand still held mine, providing unspoken support as we both slipped into this fake character. A fairly loud whistling sound was River's cue to pull away. And when our lips finally parted, River looked at me with a mischievous smile on his face. I even just realized that my left hand had a tight grip on his waist, while my right hand carrying the clutch bag was already pressing against his chest. "Great, isn't it?" he whispered as he rubbed my lips with his right thumb. My breathing was a little labored. My heart was racing and I felt confused. It turned out that this game was more complicated than I had imagined, and there could be more secrets hidden behind that annoying River Lynch

Before Father could answer, the silver threads in my gown suddenly flared with violent crimson light. The silk snapped against my skin, pulling me toward the open balcony as though an invisible rope were tied around my waist. A deep pulse vibrated through the floor. It wasn’t a warning. It was a call. Beyond the balcony, a single crimson thread burned through the black fog, stretching from the courtyard to the silk around my waist. And at the other end of that glowing blood-red line, a shadow was scaling the northern wall.

The white silk whipped away into the midnight wind, dissolving into the exhaust smoke. Sienna let out a fierce, liberating howl against the gale, her silver hair flying wild as she bared her fangs back at the retreating venue. The pressure rolling off him turned savage in an instant. His silver-gray eyes blazed crimson. A single backhand sweep sent the attackers flying like snapped kites, crashing into the walls.
