Thorne runs the tests himself, the same careful, unhurried way he’s always handled things for me, and
when he comes back with the results, his expression is difficult to read at first.
“I want to be honest with you,” he says.
“What they told you before wasn’t wrong about
the scarring. But it’s not absolute, and apparently your body had other plans.”
He turns the printout toward me.
“You’re pregnant, Liora. Genuinely, confirmed pregnant.”
I stare at the paper for a long moment, unable to fully process it at first.
