The hockey rink was empty that early, just us and the cold air that made my nose sting. The ice looked smooth and scary under the bright lights. I laced up the skates, feeling clumsy already. My feet wobbled the second I stepped on. “Easy, dude,” Roland said, gliding over like it was nothing. “Bend your knees. Don’t lock up.”

'' Johnson screamed as he held his phone and ran towards me. ''Dude, I....'' He showed me a video where I beat up a guy at that club. People spread words really fast. Can't a girl just have some fun? I brought out my phone and dialed a number. ''Hi. This is Tess Harvey. Remember that favor you owe me from last time? Take down everything about a girl beating up a guy at a club and everything that relates to it.'' This is such a bad morning for me. I turned round a sharp corner and warm liquid spilled on me.

The ride was shorter than the one was when we went into the city. Cade mind-linked me. "How is your finger. Mine is not burning as much." "Same." We pulled into a parking lot that already had several people parked there. As we exited the building, I looked up at the slops and saw people sliding down the mountains with boards. I grabbed Cade's arm. "What are they doing?" I signed. He mind linked me. He was good at knowing what I signed, but he was still learning to actually do it himself. He needed more practice. "They are skiing and snowboarding." "It looks fun." He smiled and mind-linked me. "Maybe next time we will go snowboarding." That looked fun, and I thought I would be good at it. Whe

he replied. We walked around until we reached a spot where a lot of young people were gathered and skateboarding. "Do you know how to skateboard?" he asked. "Huh? Of course not, that's not something girls do," I said. "That's where you're wrong, look at the others over there, most of them are girls." He explained that skateboarding is for everyone because it's a hobby, and he was glad to see girls who knew how to have fun. Thinking about it, he was right. I had never seen a girl having fun with a skateboard, but that was probably because I came from a wealthy family.

We were headed for the open seas, by which I mean the sea of lava stretched out ahead of me. The slimes hit the lava, dragged to the right a bit, then settled into a forward movement that all but ignored the rush of hot magma beneath them. I should point out I’ve never had great balance. I’ve been ice skating once. I’m the guy desperately hanging onto the boards around the sides while his legs do an impression of a newborn foal. I wanted to be able to ride a skateboard when I was a kid, but never managed to stay upright for more than five seconds. Obviously, I never bothered with roller skates since I’m not gay.

I was ready to fight him. "I trust you," Caleb says calmly, keeping his eyes on mine. "Even though I probably shouldn't..." I laugh at his words. "I might be a bitch, but I'm at least trustworthy. All my ideas are great." Caleb massages his temples. "Suddenly, I worry I might have taken water over my head. I have PTSD from when you said the only way to learn how to skateboard is to be exposed to it... And then you proceeded to push me down the hill..."

Ellie shot back, sinking into the couch. “Still looked like you had it stuck in your anus and couldn’t walk.” Sasha grins when Ellie throws the pillow back at her. “This is embarrassing! How do I tell him I can’t skate when I told him I could.” She groans, grabbing a pillow and screams into it. “The same way you told him you could skate even when you clearly couldn’t. Your problem has been solved, Ellie. Now tell us what happened last night.” Sasha turns to me and I sigh as they both sit up to listen to my quick rant.

After we had returned our skates, we took a sigh of relief. My body ached from all the falls but we both wore wide smiles on our faces as we walked towards Abi's house, chatting away. He was telling me stories about his life, mostly featuring Luca, and I was nearly in tears laughing.
