I sat in my office, the dim light from the lone lamp barely illuminating the room. My eyes scanned the maps spread out on my table, tracing the borders between my territory and the Silver Creek. My grip tightened around the glass of whiskey in my hand as my mind raced with strategies and possible outcomes. "Sire," a voice broke my concentration, and I turned to see one of my pack members standing by the door. "We have located Skye Jackson. She is indeed in Silver Creek."

Now the real hunters were coming. "Can you walk?" I asked Sam. "Can I fly?" she countered weakly. "Because that would be more useful right now." Despite everything, I smiled. "I'll take that as a yes." I helped her to her feet, keeping one arm around her waist to support her. The wounds on her neck had slowed to a trickle, but she was dangerously pale. Too pale. Skye had taken too much. Skye himself stood apart from us, staring at his blood-covered hands like he didn't recognize them. The hunger in his eyes had been replaced by something worse—self-loathing so intense it was almost tangible.

I grabbed a clean towel and hung it over my shoulders and was halfway in entering the bathroom, but suddenly I heard her call my name softly. "Alec..." Then a crashing sound came over and when I looked back, I saw Skye clutching her chest as she squeezed her eyes shut in pain. "Skye! Skye what's wrong?" I ran to her side kneeling beside her. I took her hands away that was clutching her chest to check her body and pulled her shirt down. And that's when I saw the black veins that was spreading in her body, but that wasn't all that was happening, it was glowing red.

“I have no idea what you are referring to.” Nova opened his mouth for the third time, but Skye raised her hand. “See no evil, hear no evil,” she said dramatically. “In fact, I did not see anything. I was not even here. I just walked in and I am already walking back out the same way I came in.” She started moving backwards slowly toward the door, still talking. “I will be outside waiting for Brad. We have a lot to do and I will be spending the night at his place. You two have fun. Be safe. Use protection. Lock the door. Bye!”

She looks up at me and grins, “Hunting, meet me in the library in an hour.” I sit back down, picking at the food on my plate; I am not hungry; as beautiful as it is out here, there's no use staying on the balcony any longer. I stand and leave my bedroom; on the way to the library, I cross paths with Xavier; he frowns, looks behind me, and asks, “Where’s Skyla.” I raised my eyebrows, surprised that Skyla hadn't told him where she was going, and said, “She said she was going hunting, and I was to meet her in the library.”

Luna Ava, however, wasn’t and I heard from Alpha Michael recently that his mom has started to talk to him about her struggles with being the Luna to the pack who housed and trained the hunters.
