“You will meet him real soon.” My fingers itched for the knife under my dress at that moment. I had prepared for this showdown for years. Practiced how I would look him in the eyes without blinking, without screaming, without driving a blade through his chest on sight. Now I had to wait. Fine. Let him come home to hell. The chaplain’s voice rose again. “Lyra Cross, do you take Killian Maddox to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, till death do you part?”

Gunfire erupts immediately, bullets tearing through the night. Sera and Dante burst through the back window. Sera's rust-colored wolf hits the ground first, immediately attacking the nearest hunter—her jaws close on his arm, making him drop his weapon. Dante's alpha wolf is right behind her, massive and deadly. He takes down two hunters before they can react, his supernatural speed overwhelming their human reflexes. But there are too many. For every hunter they take down, two more appear. Silver bullets whiz past Sera's head. One catches her shoulder, burning like fire. She yelps but keeps fighting.

The wolves were here. Ethan stepped in front of Sasha, his body a shield. “Alex, cover her! Marcus, take the left!” Sasha’s heart thundered in her chest as the first wolf lunged into the cave, its eyes glowing with feral rage. Ethan met it head-on, his movements a blur of strength and precision. But as the battle raged, Sasha felt the pull of the shard growing stronger, like an invisible thread tugging at her very soul. Her vision blurred, and for a brief moment, she saw flashes of Ronan—his eyes burning with hatred, his voice echoing in her mind.

“Layla Xander, you sure know how to reel men in, don’t you?” He gave Xavier a slow once-over and smirked. “Looks like this guy’s got a little money too.” His sneer deepened, his words dripping with malice. “God knows how many men she's been with. And you’re fighting to be next? At least pick someone clean—” *Smack!* Layla didn’t hesitate. Her hand flew out and landed a hard slap across Shane’s face. Blinded by rage, Shane immediately raised his hand to strike back but Xavier was faster. He grabbed Shane’s wrist firmly, holding him in place.

My canines were out so I felt a taste of copper and warm liquid in my tongue as I stared at the two men that were ready to take Lilia. I stared at Alveria whose aura authority was beginning to fade at my cold stare and– Jax! Fuck!! I feel like someone stabbed me, crumpling my crown and pride to the dirt.

Then again she had just been so relieved and giddy that she had been able to hopefully help impress Lucas into making a deal with Nathaniel. By the time the girls were back in the den, clean of sweat and glitter and all tucked up in their cots under layers of blankets and clothing to fight off the cold, Chloe had all but forgotten about her meeting with the mysterious British werewolf. "Keep it steady!" I regained my footing between the bags, aimed, then took another two shots. One hit his upper arm, the other his shoulder, but he kept coming, unfazed by the gushing holes. I shifted my weight onto my other foot and grinned. I might not have stopped him, but the Thornblood dipped bullets had punctured him, binding shade and host to the same satisfying fate. I fired one last time, hitting him strait between his soulless eyes.

Xander asked as if he was rubbing salt on my mood after ruining my appetite. "Can you let go of me and stop bothering me? When did you start to care about whether I ate or not?" I snapped at Xander irritated. He ignored me and his eyes glanced at the floor to catch the sight of the book the floor. "Bambi and the devil. That's interesting so you are into dark romance." Xander read out the book title as he pinned me against the shelves. "I am not into dark romance. Why are you here and not with your precious lover?" I hissed at him not liking how close we were. His eyes had a fleeting emotion I could not read that quickly disappeared.
