The Atlas Paradox Novels & Stories

Travan thundered. Atlas watched as Travan floated mid-air air; his eyes becoming fireballs of light. He realized what the old man is doing--- Travan is summoning all of his powers. The breeze around them quickly grew thick and strong and the heavens grew dark and gloomy and the ground shook. Suddenly, a bolt of light captured Atlas from the heavens. He fell off his feet and growled in pain. "Wh-what...p-power!" his mind cried out. He raised his hand in desperation at the ship with blue lights and almost immediately he was beamed out from the spot where he stood, successfully escaping Travan's powers.

Limbs moving without direction, seeking what was lost. "Still," he mutters, "I wouldn’t leave." "You say that now," Nova replies. "But no one ever does." They lapse into silence, the sun sinking lower behind distant hills. Atlas watches the way the shadows lengthen, swallowing the gravestones. "There has to be a way to fight it," Atlas insists quietly. "Maybe no one figured it out because no one’s tried together. Everyone splits apart, tries to save themselves. What if that’s why it wins?"

Her question surprised me and I shook my head immediately. “Not at all, I'm color blind.” My reply was immediate, a sarcastic retort that came as a surprise to me. Alisa blinked back in surprise, staring with confusion. “Look, Alisa. I understand that you're just looking out for me. But Atlas is my mate and there's no way that I'd be rejecting him. He had his reasons for doing all that he did and he has apologized and still has more groveling to do. But expecting me not to go back to my mate when you are here with yours doesn't exactly sit well with me,”

How could she not let it bother her when she had no one to talk to about it? ATLAS Patrolling the forest with Jarrod and Pauley, Atlas walked among them, but he wasn’t mentally present. His mind was elsewhere, still stewing over the meeting with the council. He was livid that they had denied him so quickly without even giving it a thought. He had hoped they would’ve at least been open-minded. "Oy," Jarrod broke the silence, poking him with a stick. "You're grouchy today." Pauley snorted, shaking his head. "Good call on poking the man. The irony isn't lost."

“About watching you drift toward something dark and pretending you’re still standing in the light.” She laughed once, sharp. “Don’t you dare. Not after what you did. You left, Atlas. You disappeared. You don’t get to reappear and ask for moral clarity.” “I’m not asking,” he said, his voice quieter. “I’m warning you.” Something in his tone gave her pause. He stepped closer, lowering his voice. “I’ve seen what happens to people who think they’re saving the world when they’re really just rewriting it. Evelyn wasn’t the first.”

Creed gasped in utter confusion. Much to his surprise, the energy which earlier felt like a 2000 volt of electricity suddenly shrunk to an extent of mere buzzing static. Creed's jaws dropped, seeing the discharge to be altered so effectively. He instantly got blown away by Atlas's efficiency. The power which overwhelmed him before, Atlas was exploited it as if it was nothing. "What are you daydreaming about?" Atlas' voice brought him back to reality, "Come on, Focus!" "!" "Sorry, I was just—Nevermind... I am on it."

“I have been working on making everything self-sufficient so when I disappear, humans can continue living on. I just do not know where to put you and Leo into all of this. I want to honor your desires.” Leo stared horror struck at the two of them. He had never predicted that this would be waiting for them when they passed the test. He didn’t want Atlas to weaken and disappear. The entity occupied a difficult position in Leo’s mind. He was the cause of problems, but he was also the one who could fix them. “Could humans live without the system of the underworld, paradise and hell?” Nocturne asked. “I tried it out in your test world,” Atlas admitted. “It’s too complicated to not filter through

He smirks at me before shifting, his body rippling into Medus’s form with effortless grace. I take a deep breath, feeling the familiar tingle that comes before a shift. I close my eyes and let it take over, my bones elongating, muscles rippling and stretching beneath my skin as Atlas steps forward. The transformation is smooth, familiar, but this time it feels... different—like Atlas is just as eager to be near Medus as I am to be near Max.

He slowly rose back, leaving my neck alone. "You can't trust me even a little bit?" Atlas asked as he returned to his original position. "Would you trust a complete stranger with your life?" I asked him back. I watched as he took in my words and then sighed. "I get it" Atlas replied as he backed away from me. I could see that it hurt him but he was willing to give me space I guess. "I shouldn't have done that" Atlas said as he point to my neck. The thought made me stiffen. Fuckk I forgot I just let Atlas kiss my neck. My hand went up to touch the spot he kissed and it made me clutch my legs together. Gods I'm going crazy...

"From what Atlas!" Silence fell between us for a while. Then Atlas sighed and said, "My parents died in a tragic accident when I was eight, and similar fate had missed me countless times. It's a pattern, Aria." Knowing where the conversation was heading, I walked over to him, took his hands in mine, and said, "Atlas, I think it's just a nor…" "I know that it could be just a normal coincidence. But I'm not willing to take that chance with you in my life, that's why I hired a detective."
