The place was about 650 square feet, but the way Laura had it arranged and decorated gave it depth and texture. He admired her use of space. There was a bookshelf in the living room next to the TV, and it was filled with historical and contemporary romance novels, along with some books on travel, history, and fashion.

Then, brow cocked, "And I do mean coffee. A girl has to take a day off sometimes." "I promise to be a perfect gentleman. And yes, I would very much like coffee." She eyes me then, "I believe you." She turns the key and clicks the door open. "Come on in." I heft the bag of books. "Where do you want these?" "Just on the table there." The apartment is small but perfectly kept; a single living room with doors off. "Somehow, I didn't have you in a place like this. What with the designer clothes and all."

Venus P.O.V..... Saying goodbye to my parents and brothers was the hardest thing I have ever done. I had almost decided not to go, but the thought went away as quickly as it had come about. I was on a mission and I couldn't let the fear of leaving my family stop me. The trip from our small pack airport to Sea-Tac airport was quick and smooth. Now I was safely nestled into a first class cubby. There was alot of room. I had my own T.V. and mini bar. The flight attendant told me since I was underage they had taken any alcohol and replaced it with extra pop and water. My parents had sent notice to them ahead of time. I spent three more minutes getting back in. Sleep didn’t happen. The house was too quiet. Too big. Too full of space where sound should’ve been. At 2 AM I gave up and explored instead. The library was exactly as enormous as I expected. Books floor to ceiling with one of those rolling ladders, and here’s the thing, the spines were creased. These books had been read. Some of them were shoved in sideways because whoever organized them ran out of space and just kept going. He reads, I thought. Of course he does. Because he couldn’t just be terrifying. He had to be terrifying and well-read.

Big and bold. Kael scoots over, creating a small sliver of space for me, and I fold myself awkwardly onto his tiny bed. My body contorts, cramped into angles that feel more like origami than comfort. I open the book, and of course—it is about space, just like the rest of his room, where planets dangle from the ceiling and stars scatter across the wallpaper. At least it’s educational, though that’s little comfort. A groan slips out before I can stop it. Which fool bought this monstrosity? Then realization crashes down like a cruel punch. It was me. I cursed myself with this. Never again will I encourage bedtime reading.

Ellie’s POV The library was smaller than I expected, really just one long room at the back of the meeting house. But it was packed full, the shelves stretching all the way from the floor to the ceiling. Small, but mighty; exactly what I needed. The section on local plant life was tucked between a section on historical accounts and fiction novels, which was an interesting method of organization, to say the least. To my dismay, there were only three books in the entire section. Not so mighty, I supposed.

She stayed holed up in her room, slowly packing what she could take with her. Her clothes did not take up much space. The real issue was her entire wall of specialized medical books.

The earlier I start, the closer I’ll get to leaving this place. I struggle to stand, my legs stiff from hours of sitting in one spot. “Ah,” I cry out softly, finding the light switch and turning it on. Damn. My eyes widen in disbelief. This place looks like an ancient library. The room is small, it belongs to a child, but the aesthetics tell me that the child studied endlessly. My fingers trail across the shelves, flipping through books one after another. These are limited editions, the rare copies. Then my eyes fall on a purple-colored book, and my mouth falls open. “My God!” I exclaim, lifting it carefully. “The Book of Magic.”
