I stopped to look down at my nails, my eyes instantly drawn to the one different nail on my left ring finger. "Oh yeah?" Ella said. "Maybe we should create a little book club of our own, have discussions about our lunch gatherings rather than just sharing glances at each other." She suggested. "Well... While the young wives might like the idea, I'm not so sure about the old wives," Cilvia commented. "Is this your way of saying you don't want to do book clubs?" Ella asked, and Cilvia just shrugged her shoulders. "We can go get our nails done. I'm sure all the women would like that," Cilvia suggested.

“You looked, I don’t know, peaceful.” “Honestly, this book is terrible,” Audrey said, holding up some thriller that I vaguely recognized. “I don’t know why the hell Annabelle has it on her shelf, but I fear for any of the recommendations she’s been giving out at the bookstore.” I suddenly realized where I recognized the book from. “Oh, that’s the one that all the book clubs were reading a while back,” I said. “She probably only got it because of that.” “Oh, that makes more sense,” Audrey said. Compliments passed back and forth, smiles filled the air, and the amount of giggles would make you think you were at a teenager’s sleepover talking about the hottest guy on Teen Vogue. And I must say that it was a nice day. Book club went off without a hitch, and the exchange of ideas fueled more conversation about home, family, work, and life in general. And then we heard it. The salsa dance. The library was closing in thirty minutes. Again, now in fifteen minutes. And last call, time to pack up and go.

It was more for Kendra's sake, but Demitri would be lying if he said he didn't enjoy an excuse to spend more time with his friends. Every Friday after school, Kendra, Steve, and Kyle would join them for book club. They each took turns picking the book, but as usual Becca and Demitri were the only two that actually cared. While they had written summaries and detailed notes about the book, the others brought blank paper most the time so they could catch just enough facts to make it seem like they read it.
