We exhaled together. I whispered a soft thank you as the nurse exited.
Matteo leaned forward, brushing Sofia’s hair away from her forehead. “Remember when she used to call herself ‘Princess Pirate’?” he said, voice cracking with emotion. “Told me she could beat up all the boys with her tiara and plastic sword?”
