She took it, her grip weak but determined.
Kael returned, eyes grim. “Bombs are set. We’re ready.”
“Then let’s give Zerathos something to remember.”
We filed out of the tower, our wounded behind us, Ava and I leading the front, our boots crunching over ash and bone. The moment we reached the gate again, I gave the signal.
And the tower exploded.
Fire and stone rained from the sky, illuminating the darkness like a second sun. A chunk of the tower crashed into the Forge’s battlements, setting off a chain reaction of smaller explosions where we’d left bombs earlier. The top of the forge gave way and we could see the sky.
