We can’t all be this amazing, after all.” Caleb shakes his head, barely containing his amusement. “Can you believe this guy?” he whispers, mimicking Brent’s voice with exaggerated flair. “‘This amazing.’”

“Now we warm up. No lyrics yet. Just sound.” He played a simple scale. “Hum with your mouth closed. Follow me.” I hesitated for half a second before humming along. My voice came out softer than I expected. “Louder,” he said immediately. “This is not a secret.” I tried again, pushing a little more air through. “Don’t push from your throat,” he corrected. “Support it. Let the breath carry the sound.” We went up the scale slowly. Then down. Again. And again. It was repetitive. Almost boring. But after a few rounds, I started noticing it; the vibration in my face, the way the sound shifted when I adjusted my breathing.
