Chapter Three: Jade's POV The mattress beneath me was too soft. It was the kind of yielding, expensive foam that seemed designed to swallow a person whole. It was unfamiliar and wrong. My eyes fluttered open slowly, but a sharp, clinical light forced them shut again. I groaned quietly and lifted a leaden hand to my forehead.

Right where they’ll stay. Shrugging into a fresh tee and my favorite brand of sweats, I launch myself onto the bed. The memory foam molding up around my body. I pray for sleep to claim me. Or even an idea of what I’m going to do, to flood into my mind, but nothing comes. It’s just the still of the dark, my breathing, Soraya’s face and Fallon’s lips. Groaning into the comforter, its fabric clenched tight in my fists, I scream.

I couldn't believe he didn't think to get me a sheet or blanket. “How am I supposed to sleep on this” I mumbled. I lay down and as I expected it smelled. It smelled so musty, like it hadn’t seen daylight in months. The mattress was so thin it felt like I was sleeping directly on the floor. My ribs started to hurt and I changed position

Her weak mind-link brings me back to the present, and I snuggle her. -"Yes, it was just a nightmare. He fell right back asleep." -"Thank you, Matt." I kiss her forehead and close my eyes. After a minute or two, I notice her breathing slow down, and I know she has fallen asleep. The light on the nightstand is on, allowing me to watch her peaceful expression. Since Susie's first apneic episode, I always keep a nightlight on. I observe her long eyelashes and faded pink lips until I slowly feel my eyes become heavy, and I fall asleep.

Or someone. “Pathetic,” I muster under my breath but I don’t move away. Instead, I peel the shirt over my head and the cold air hits my skin, making me aware as Goosebumps rises along my arms, tracing the ink that wraps around them. I reach into my drawer and pull out a long nightwear, it’s a set i wear when am in one of my moods. It’s a soft but expensive sleep wear with a flowing fabric that drapes instead of clings to the skin with its thin straps. The kind that shifts when you breathe. The kind that moves when you walk.

She could have sworn that she could still smell her dad’s cologne, and with that, a mist began to form in front of her eyes, but this time she was in for a surprise. Before long she fell asleep with books littered all over the bed and the floor. Aj was trying as he made himself into a tight ball above her head. It was only seconds when Aj started to snore. Once she entered the astral plane, she felt like she was floating. Ever since Thomas had taught them to dream walk, Sage had been trying to protect everyone by popping into their dreams occasionally, and now she just wanted to remember the good times with her dad & mom.

Yara said and Dream kept her silence until they reached home. Emma bid her goodnight to them. She‘s really exhausted and all she wanted is to sleep. "Sweety, you can sleep at my room. Let your dad use your room." Yara said. "I can sleep at the couch." Kenzo said. "Can I sleep with dad?" Dream said. Yara looked at Kenzo. "Sure, sweety, But I'm warning you, I snore loudly." Kenzo said. "Don't worry dad, mom snores loudly too." Dream said smiling. "Dream, you're really..." Yara said. "I recorded her snoring, you want to hear it dad?" Dream said and get her phone.

“We should get ready for breakfast… and then whatever activities they have in store for us.” “Yes, we should,” she sighs and takes possession of the other bed. That’s when I notice she has two suitcases. A bit too much for only a three-day… “By the way, you should know I sleep with an apnea machine. It is not terribly loud, but… it is a little loud.” Oh. Great. So great. “No worries,” I force a smile as she takes out a big machine from one of her suitcases. That makes sense now. “No worries at all.”

After calming their breaths, they both fell into deep sleep. Jasper tossed and turned in his sleep, plagued by nightmares that seemed too real, too vivid. One particular dream stood out. He was in a cozy, intimate room, with soft lighting. In the dream, Luna was with him, her soft voice telling him everything would be okay. He could hear the sound of her laughter, her familiar presence that had once been a source of comfort to him.

She enjoyed the bouncy mattress, giggling like a child for a few minutes before going under the cover. The mattress was just right, the pillow was like a cloud, and the cover was warm and fuzzy, Talia fell asleep the moment her eyes closed.
