One big spider formed in the middle of the room, and shooting a massive web, it caught the witches, and Drake, forcing him to shift back to human. “I believe that you do realize that the diversity here would only lead to your death, Alpha Drake.” The woman who stood beside me said, crossing her arms over her chest. “Now, considering the fact that you took time in organizing the games, funding, and all. My own body. All for the chance to save as many as I could.” Light burst from her chest as she chanted. But when the spell settled, something went horribly wrong. The witches turned on each other. Everyone’s DNA… every creature… had been touched by that madness.”

It's slavering jaws hung open and its razor-sharp teeth were bared, as it advanced towards her with its blood-red eyes, ablaze with undisguised hunger. It occurred to Merlin that werewolves didn't normally have red eyes, something was wrong with these werewolves and the more she thought about it, the more convinced she became. The werewolves were not rogues, they were under a powerful spell and instinctively, she knew that only another witch could cast such a spell. The only witch that had been capable of such a feat, was Aunt May, but Merlin knew that she was dead, which meant that there was another and for some reason, this thought filled her with a feeling of growing disquiet.

She begins stating random words that they are speaking when I look up to the top screen. The screen was simple enough, just empty streets and darkness. What was above the screen, chilling like it just got home from a hard day’s work, was a spider. Not just a little spider either that would startle me. This spider was a Goliath Birdeater, and it was looking directly at me.

Frost spiderwebbed across the stone floor. "She's not just dying," Cressida continued. "She's been killing. Witches. Wolves. Anyone with power she could absorb." Her voice was ice. "I saw the records. Morwenna showed me. Twelve deaths in the past year. All within a hundred miles of Vivienne's last known location." Vivienne's smile finally faltered. As far as I remembered, spiders were solitary creatures. Some even ate their own mothers after hatching, then scattered and lived alone. That was why each spider had its own web.
