I twisted sideways sharply, shifting back to human form and drawing the silver knife Rhys had given me. Silver flashed as the blade plunged into the spider's belly. The spider shrieked, its limbs twitching frantically. I shifted back to wolf form and lunged at its exposed weak spot – the soft tissue under its head. A fatal blow. The spider fell, but the poison was spreading. My fur was matted with it in several places, the wounds burning. Venom-Mist Spiders wouldn't just show up here. It was… Cassidy. That strange smell earlier, and the "herbs" she was gathering near the cave – it was a scent to lure the spiders!

She raised the vial and sprayed it dead in the witch’s face. The witch shrieked. It was an enormous, horrible sound for something that started shrinking almost immediately, her whole huge, twisted shape collapsing in on itself, less and less of her with every second, until there was nothing left towering over us at all. My body twisted, trapped in my wolf form, unable to shift back. I growled lowly, but she was gone before I could react. With a final look of contempt, she left, slamming the door behind her.I ran.

I said, my voice getting louder with each word. A large disfigured spider, almost the same size as me, jumped out; its eyes were pitch black, and it had a scorpion's stinger at its back. "Stay away!" I yelled as I struggled. "Is someone there?! Magnus! Meredith!" I transformed halfway into my wolf form and growled at the spider, hoping to scare it away, but it persisted forward. The spider's beady eyes fixed on me, and it charged towards me with an eerie screech. I screamed, struggling to escape from the grip of the quicksand. But the spider ran straight into the quicksand, sinking like I was.
