Chapter 14 Adolfa’s POV This time, my body quivered as the spirit vanished. I stood alone in the pitch-black silence, the bitter wind scraping across my face. My fingers tightened around the edges of my cloak as I attempted to comprehend what had just occurred. Why is my destiny always entwined with spirits? The first spirit startled me, yet here I stood again, speaking to another—one more formidable and vast than the last. Was it real? Had I truly encountered another spirit from the otherworld once again?

One after another, they surged through us, seeking what had been promised. The moment the waves struck the witch’s spirit, a scream of pure agony tore through the air. The winds grew even fiercer, swirling violently around her. Elowen spoke louder, still in that unknown tongue, and the winds obeyed her commands. They reversed course, rushing back into the book and dragging the spirit with them. “NO!!!!” she howled as her essence fused with the pages. Elowen slammed the book shut, pouring even more intensity into her words. Slowly the cover began to transform, the gold fading and giving way to a deep, dark green.

Dust covered most of its surface, and the pages looked ancient. "This came from Elder Rowan's private collection." I frowned. "And?" Jackson carefully opened the book. Several pages had been marked, highlighted, and referenced. His finger stopped on one specific passage. "You need to read this." I pulled the journal closer. The handwriting was difficult to decipher, faded badly by age. Yet one sentence immediately stood out. My blood ran cold. Beside me, Sienna read it too and froze. After the boys had left my room, I went through my bag and pulled out my favorite book, Night Flame, by Catherine Hart. I sat back in my chair by the window, prepared to spend the rest of the afternoon reading when a shiver ran down my spine. I jumped out of my seat and spun around to see a pair of yellow eyes glowing in the corner of the room. As those eyes drew closer to me, I realized that it was Simon, the fae that came to warn me the other day.
