Jadon insisted before I stood up, dancing next to him to some club music, I looked at Liam watching me dance with his friend, my eyes locked with him and his gaze was just on me while dancing to Jason Derulo’s swalla. They got polite claps. Then it was Sylvia’s turn. The music changed to something low and pulsing. Sylvia moved to the center. Her dance was all swaying hips and lingering glances. It was a mating dance, really. She was showing off for Caius, for every man watching. She was skilled, her body bending like a willow, her eyes promising secrets. She finished with a dramatic spin, her arms flung out. The hall clapped, louder than for the others. Men whistled.

As he gazed at them, a smile played at the corners of his lips. Andre made his way through the crowd of strippers, finally reaching a chair at the far end. He settled into it, grabbing a pack of cigarettes and lighting one up. The girls gathered around him, drawn by his presence. With the music growing louder, they swayed their hips and danced around him. Andre watched them with excitement, while some of the girls settled on either side of his legs, giving him lap dances. One of them approached him and said, "I've missed you so much, Scorpion."

I scrunched my nose in disgust and shook my head. I knew it. "No, thank you. Excuse us." "Hey, come on..." The guy slurred. "Just one dance. I know you will like it." Sarah and I made an eye-contact. I mouthed one, two... "Three!" I threw a punch at him but he caught it instantly. Sh*t. It was not how movies showed! He came closer. His mouth reeked of alcohol. Disgusting pig. No, it would be an insult to that animal.

Astrid was shocked to see my change in mood before she was looking at me warily. “Where are we going?” “Come on. You haven’t loosen up since the wedding and what a better way to loosen up other than dancing? Not slow dancing of course,” I said as I was pulling Astrid to the center of the dance floor. We did not yet dancing our first dance and to everyone’s surprise, the music was blaring our ears now. It was ‘Womanizer’ by Britney Spears. Astrid was looking around before she was looking at me. I smirked at her as I was swaying my hips to the music. The playful part in me was trying to play with Astrid for a moment when my wife decided to change all that. And shit was lost.

I’ve only been dancing with Ruben for like five minutes-- but when I look ahead, over his shoulder, I see none other than Gerrard Southerford dancing with a woman in a tight as fuck red latex dress, his hands trailing so low on her waist that they’re pretty much grazing her ass. Shock grips me, to the point where I almost stop dancing.

He looks over his shoulder at me, and I can see the candlelight reflected in his dark eyes. There's something raw in his expression. Not pleading exactly. But desperate. Like he knows I'm being pulled away again, like sand through his fingers, and there's nothing he can do to stop it. The muscle in his jaw ticks once, twice. We both only watch on, as both now take to the floor. Hidi is clearly beaming with joy, broken from her dark stupor, to be leading the dance again. While Nicoli’s shoulder fell slightly before resigning himself to yet another dance, a calmer smile graced his face while the veiled women and their dancing partners adjusted to the giants size back on the floor.
