"Get us to the tree-line." ​As the SUV roared to life, Leo looked back at the Miller Tower. It was no longer pulsing red, but it looked broken, a monument to a family that had tried to be gods and ended up as orphans. ​The Cabin in the Pines: ​Three hours later, the rain had turned to a thick, mountain mist. The SUV groaned as it climbed the unpaved trail toward the highest peaks of the Silverwood valley. Here, the pines grew so thick they choked out the light of the city below. The scent of damp earth and pine needles was so strong it made Leo’s wolf-half stir, a low, deep rumble in his chest that he hadn't felt since the fight in the Hall.

Stanley's thoughts, however, remain as turbulent as ever. He drives through Connecticut, the landscape becoming increasingly rural. The air is fresher here, carrying the faint scent of pine and freshly cut grass. The sight of rolling hills and picturesque farms provides a stark contrast to the concrete and steel of Manhattan. But even in this serene setting, Stanley’s mind is far from calm. He thinks about Eloise and Mary Lou, the challenges they've faced, and the resilience they've shown. He draws strength from their courage, knowing he needs to be just as strong now.

Leon rolled his eyes. "Yes!" I shouted, too excited. I fucking loved the tactical village. It was in a woodland area, about forty five minutes from the station. It was set up like an active shooter situation and you were timed as you went through. You got dirty, sweaty but it was the best training experience. "Okay, Lexie is a fucking loser." Leon scoffed. "Hey! Ma'am, my sergeant can't talk to me like that!" I teased. "If your sergeant wasn't Leon I would agree. Get going. Stuart is coming with you as well." I jumped up, running to the van. Stuart was at the door, laughing.

The rain pours down heavily, and it looks like it’s not going to stop anytime soon. Only a few tourists visit the Pines City during the rainy season and it’s perfect time for those who are seeking peace and quiet away from the noises in urban cities. Amidst the cold weather, Nate took a long stroll from the main road to the foot of the mountain where the main entrance to Pines City is. He had to stop somewhere to let the rain pass. From a distance, he discovered an old building that looks like a chapel. Later, he realized that it is the chapel of the seminary that is standing right behind it.

No acknowledgment. But that was fine. Because silence was still a response. ** The sun was just beginning to dip behind the mountains when Emily stepped off the bus, the scent of pine and earth wrapping around her like a quiet promise. Whispering Pines Eco Park was breathtaking. Tall trees swaying gently in the breeze, birdsong echoing through the woods, and a sky so wide it made her feel small in the best way. Stanley was beside her, carrying both their bags with a grin that never seemed to fade. “This place is amazing,” he said, nudging her shoulder. “You’re going to love it.”

It's secluded, alright! Our destination is 606 Pine Street. The 'cabin' looks more like a villa. A wrap-around porch and arched brick support pillars make a bold statement. Nick pulls a loose brick from the pillar to the right, and a key falls out.

“Hey guys, I need to know when we are going to head over to that warehouse that Amy said was about ten miles from Juxney’s. I’m not sure I remember where that is.” “I know where that is.” Gael said. “We used to use that field over there to play baseball and soccer.” “Well, we need to get over there and get those she-wolves. Every day that passes is another day they could be in misery, and I can’t have that.” Phoenix said with authority in her voice. Sonya asked, “How do we know that it isn’t a trap? I mean Amy may have been lying.” “Oh no, we know it isn’t a trap.” Tina said as she got up to grab some more food. That girl could put it away.

The car slowed as the trees thickened. Elara sat upright in the back seat, hands folded over her knees, posture perfect despite the fatigue crawling along her spine. Her mother had reminded her: First impressions matter most. So she did not slouch. Did not look out the window like a child. Did not fidget. She stared straight ahead. The iron gates loomed up like jaws, black and ancient, set into stone pillars veined with moss. The driver didn’t speak. Just pressed a button. The gates groaned open, reluctantly, like something old and angry was being disturbed.

Stanley walked around the lake and start surveying the place. There’s seriously no one around here and the place was very quiet, so eerie enough to give him goosebumps. His feet led him to a path going into the forest. Stanley look at the forest and thought that it might be the way out. Well if not then where? Stanley shrugged and finally turned to walk into the wild. On the way he was welcomed with dark green leaves of a pine tree making the place seems gloomy. The path is wide ahead and could fit a car if he measured it by that.
