It felt like spring. The next morning, the sky was the kind of bright that only came after a storm—sharp, endless blue stretched over the mountains like a fresh canvas. We didn’t speak much as we packed the last of our things, folding clothes with the easy rhythm of people who knew they were leaving something behind—but not everything. Before we left for the airport, we made one last stop. Four Pines. The drive was quiet, only the hum of the car and Pockets sighing contentedly in the backseat, nestled among bags. As we entered the preserve, the landscape transformed into pine needles and frozen earth, enveloped in a sacred hush.

ZION Our house was located in a very secluded area of town. From the outside it had a scary appearance due to the black and grey exterior. Large black gates stood firm at the entrance of the cobblestone driveway to stop unwanted guests from trespassing. There were tall trees all over the yard that had a lack of leaves on them since it was autumn. The back yard was basically a huge field with dry, brownish grass. There was no way anyone could see anything that happened in our massive backyard because of how high the stone fencing was. It was why my father bought this particular house in the first place.

Owen hesitates. And that’s when I know— Whatever this is? It’s *not* going to be simple. We stop just outside of a small town, tucked in the valley, barely more than a few streets and a handful of buildings. Owen stretches as he steps out of the car, exhaling. “Welcome to Red Pines.” Levi shuts the car door, watching him carefully. “This is where your guy is?” Owen nods. “Yeah. But don’t expect a warm welcome.”

The old guy also called the names of the people on Ley’s side. After the exchange of greetings, the oldest looked at Ley. “So what’s the reason you requested a video call? Do you know how hard it has been to set up this thing? And it’s very cold here, so old bones like me would always feel like it’s very torturous to move.” The City of Pines was famous for being cold all-year round due to its high location and even on summer, nights there would compel one to turn the house's heater on. Ley raised an eyebrow, his glance asking 'why go there in the first place'?

Penn found Stanley and Rima in the Orchard that was behind the compound. Stanley turned to see who was approaching and when he saw it was Penn his eyes narrowed. “I am sorry?” Penn started uncertainly, unsure of how she would be received, Dinos didn’t have his way with her then but Stanley was helpless in the hands of his captors for more than a day.

Jake As I stood in the center of the clearing, the cool, crisp scent of the surrounding pine trees enveloped me, their fragrance mixing with the earthy undertones of damp soil. The towering pines formed a natural shade, their thick trunks stretching skyward like ancient sentinels. Sunlight filtered through the dense canopy, casting dappled shadows that danced on the forest floor.

The dawn broke cold and sharp, with a frost that glittered on the edges of pine needles like tiny diamonds. I stood on the ridge overlooking Ashfang’s camp, the air still and heavy as if the forest itself was holding its breath. Below, the pack stirred slowly—wolves stretching, noses twitching, voices muted by the weight of what had come before.

The Harlow Inn sat at the end of a quarter-mile gravel drive that wound through old-growth Douglas fir, the trees tall enough to turn the afternoon light green and cathedral-dim even before the clouds had properly settled in. Eli drove it slowly, partly because the rental car's suspension was already complaining about the state of the road, and partly because the inn appeared in stages through the trees and each stage gave him something new to calculate.

Sebastian presented a plan to construct a complete new structure to build a five star hotel just near the resort and in process plain a few forested areas and he also proposed to buy the resort from Uncle Peter. I could see the stress on Uncle Peter’s face. I couldn’t hold myself and said “so this is how you want to ruin the town and its natural beauty, this is where you were born..did you even think about it twice. There are so many other ways” Sebastian stopped me there and smirked, “so you want to say that you have better ideas, I don’t remember you being a part of the presentation team”

It was no longer pulsing red, but it looked broken, a monument to a family that had tried to be gods and ended up as orphans. ​The Cabin in the Pines: ​Three hours later, the rain had turned to a thick, mountain mist. The SUV groaned as it climbed the unpaved trail toward the highest peaks of the Silverwood valley. Here, the pines grew so thick they choked out the light of the city below. The scent of damp earth and pine needles was so strong it made Leo’s wolf-half stir, a low, deep rumble in his chest that he hadn't felt since the fight in the Hall.
