I ring the doorbell and wait patiently until Roger opens the door. A minute passes before the door comes open, and Roger’s imposing form fills the entryway. “Yes?” He mumbles with a grimace. Chapter 46 Jordan POV Roger met me in a place that smelled like day old coffee and questionable decisions. It was technically a diner, but “diner” made it sound charming. This one had sticky menus, a neon beer sign that flickered like it was trying to die, and a server who called everyone “hon” with the flat exhaustion of a woman who’d seen too many men cheat and too many people pretend they didn’t. I slid into the booth across from Roger and set my phone on the table like a weapon.

He hastily wiped his hands on his dark uniform trousers and stepped forward, offering a hand before stopping himself. "You must be Cleo! Lovely to finally meet you, love. I'm Roger. Everyone around here just calls me Rog," he beamed. "I'd shake your hand, but you look a bit loaded up there! Here, let me take that heavy pot for you." He reached out and effortlessly took the cast-iron dish from my aching arms. "CAP! Your girl’s here!" he bellowed at the top of his lungs, the sheer volume making me jump. He turned back to me with a gentle wink. "Follow me, love. I'll take you through to the main kitchen."

A shiver travelled through my down my back. "That's about the same time the attacks started getting worse," he told me. "Why do you think you're a rogue? Do you even know what they are?" I felt the tears burn the back of my eyes as I knotted my fingers together in my lap. "My old pack told me that the only title I'd ever be worthy of is a rogue." "You're nothing like the rogue werewolves." Hunt sounded so reassuring and when I looked at him, his eyes were warm and kind.

If I wasn’t careful, I’d be stuck in the forest when the sun went down. My gelding’s name was Roger. It wasn’t a name that I would have given him, but it was the name that he came with and that he responded to, so I didn’t change it. Roger was jet black with a white star on his forehead. He stood sixteen and a half hands high with powerful, well-defined flanks. Had he been human, he would have easily been taken for a body builder.

"Yes, sir?" "I need you to get breakfast for this tiny thing," he instructed, referring to me. Tiny thing? Me? What an idiot! Was I even tiny? I hissed silently, and turned back to the picture. I was still so confused. What was going on? In a short while, the Roger guy returned with a few slices of bread. He crouched in front of me, smiled warmly. Why was he smiling that way? He was a criminal! Criminals weren't supposed to smile!

The air crackled with anticipation, each moment hanging on the precipice of a decision that would shape their futures forever. "What begins ends too," Roger replied, his voice now tinged with a hint of sadness. "You were once my friend Charles; that's why I want to end things easily and peacefully. You have done enough damage already." Charles clenched his fists, his anger momentarily subsiding as he processed Roger's words. "It's time to accept your fate now."

He offers his hand, and I remain paralyzed in my place until he refers to Roger, “Alex Knight…where is he?” Roger, even the gentleman takes a deep sigh and responds calmly, “Well, he is out of town.” The handsome stranger gives him one single nod before he turns his attention back to me. “And this pretty lady -” he waits for Roger for the introduction, and I exclaim, my tone carries grace and composure. “I am the second in command. You don’t have to know my name.” With this being said, I turn to walk away with Roger closely following me.
