Sorenson thumbed his mic. “All sectors, status.”
“South nominal.”
“West nominal.”
“East hot but holding.”
Sorenson exhaled, then keyed the general net, voice carrying like a hand on everyone’s shoulder. “Activate Gatlings. And listen: forget the fairy tales. They don’t need a moon. They take orders. Something out there is driving them like a hand on a wheel.”
Mau didn’t look up. “Copy,” he said to no one and everyone, already building a new pane. Lines bloomed across a schematic of the perimeter—antennas, sensors, clock marks.
