Slowly she walked over to the window. “That bed is yours.” One of the girls informed Maia and pointed to the other top bunk. It had sheets and a big blanket and fluffy-looking pillows. “My name’s Jasmine. That’s Vanessa and that’s Nicole.” The same girl introduced herself and pointed to each of the other girls. “What’s your name?” She put her journal beside her and looked down at Maia with a smile. “Maia.” She said simply, looking up at the girl. She had super curly hair and darker skin. Her smile was bright and kind and she wore a purple pullover. She had her coily hair pulled back with a yellow scrunchie.

While the plant provides power for most of the state, it does not require that many employees to run it so the town remains small. Amaris threw off the plain white sheets and rolled out of the twin bed that lay nestled against the wall and in the corner of the room. When she was a child, Amaris would push the bed back against the wall every night so that she could lay at the foot of her bed and look out her window at the moon.
