Jane could hear a tour guide tell people that it was a new wonder of the world and she looked up at the magnificent temple. It consisted of a series of square terraces with stairways up each of the four sides that led to the temple on top. Sculptures of serpents ran down the sides on the northern side and Missy whispered at how beautiful it was. All four sides of the temple had about ninety-one steps and if counted with the final step onto the temple platform it made up a total of three hundred and sixty five steps. The steps on the southern side were eroded but the tour guide definitely had their attention with those small details.

Or maybe it wasn’t just about me. Maybe Maria herself was scared of what Luca would do to her if she didn’t return home at the exact time he expected. I didn’t know what their arrangement was, but I could feel it. Perhaps Luca De Rossi control hung over her like a chain. The thought of that made my chest tight, almost angry, but more helpless than anything. I turned on the couch again, sighing into the dark, and that’s when I noticed her. Stephanie. She was standing by the door, half-hidden by the shadows, watching me. Her eyes caught the faint glow of the streetlight seeping through the curtains, and then she smiled.

Shit I don’t get anxiety but tonight it was overwhelming at the thought of introducing her to the guests we have tonight. “What? of course not” Maria denied straightening herself out as she was left standing on the last step alone since Aimee was now being caressed in Lorenzo’s arms. His previous furry no longer visible as he placed a kissed to her lips. “You look exquisite” Marcel complemented offering Maria his hand, her smile was so bright and genuine that I made a mental note to bring it out again tonight, I loved the site. “Thank you, it was a gift from a very handsome man” she said placing her hand in his as she allowed him to help her from the last step.

MARIA'S POV. The next morning came quickly. And for the first time in years, I slept like a child who had no reason to worry. I.was finally going to get my revenge on Allen. I walked down the marble stairs with my hand on the railing. The house was quiet. For a moment I felt like I was the only person alive. Adam was a busy woman. Unlike me who stayed in the shadows, Adam liked the spotlight— everything was to help me anyway.

She wore a beautiful black sandal and carried a beautiful cross-bag. “Wow,” Stephanie said after checking her outfit out. “How do I look?” Mary made a quick turn, and Stephanie kissed her fingers. “You look absolutely beautiful, Mary. Wow, I haven’t seen you dress so hot like this. Who is this friend of yours?” Stephanie teased, and Mary lowered her head shyly.

That night, Mason finally returned home. He stood framed in the doorway, reeking of cheap alcohol, every part of him reeked of Olivia’s unmistakable scent —night jasmine, white musk, and a lingering trace of silver leaf. It was a scent widely known for its powerful aphrodisiac effects. It was easy to picture the passionate scene he had with his step-mother. The moment Mason stepped inside, he spotted me seated on the couch, engrossed in a book. He grinned and outstrip his arms for an embrace. But this time, I calmly, deliberately, pushed him away.
