I have a son.” “I knocked up a stalker and I have a daughter,” Steven says. “Are you going to reject me?” Ki asks. “NO,” I yell. “Steven needs a minute to process this, but he is not going to reject you. He wouldn’t hurt you like that.”

“Wha-what do you mean by that?” “Do you not realize why Steven treats you differently than other couples? He harbors hatred towards you, which overrides any love he may have for you. This is because he associates your existence with the death of his parents, as you were connected to Mateo. Steven has a vendetta against both you and Mateo, and he is determined to make you both pay for his loss. In his mind, this is the only way he can exact his revenge.”

“I honestly have never thought about getting married or starting a family.” For some fucking reason his words hurt more than the fact that Thomas was trying to get me pregnant without my knowledge. Steven said without resentment, savoring the moment just as I was. “You mean, I’m not dead?” I asked, confused. “I can go back?” “You never left.” Steven brushed another strand of my hair away from my face. All of a sudden, a baby’s cry sounded faintly behind me. “Jase …” I said. I looked over my shoulder, but there was nothing but darkness. Then, I turned back to Steven. “I have a son, Steven. Can you believe it?” Steven smiled as tears of joy filled his eyes. “Yes, I know. He’s beautiful,” he said, then added, “I wish that I could have given you a child.”

For the first time tonight, it feels like I’m not completely stuck. Ariana stands up, walking over to the kitchen counter where her phone is sitting. “Oh,” she says casually. “Before I forget.” Something in her tone makes my stomach tighten. “What?” She glanced at the screen, then turned it toward me. “Someone posted this earlier.” I frowned, pushing myself up and stepping closer and then I see it. My chest drops. It’s Stephen. He was standing outside somewhere i didn’t recognize and there’s a girl with him. Her arms are wrapped around him, her head tucked against his shoulder like she belongs there.

That I was her son's fake fiancee? And in two days, I would be pretending to be his wife? I was caught in tentative thoughts, scrambling for an answer when Steven spoke. “Only If you had not started attacking me with words, I would have introduced her sooner." He said, then turning to me. “This is Carly Williams and..." He paused, his dark, piercing eyes met mine. “She is my fiancee who I am marrying in two days." He revealed., and the atmosphere suddenly shifted as silence took over, and all I could hear was the heartbeat of my own heart.

“You’re the prey tonight.” Steven smirked. “Five against one? That’s not even a challenge.” The men raised their weapons, aiming at him. “You won’t be laughing for long,” one of them sneered. Steven’s eyes glowed with an icy blue light, and a chilling grin spread across his face. “I’ll make you regret those words. Let’s dance.” Then he turned to me, his expression fierce. “Run, Luna. Now.” I didn’t wait for another warning. I turned and ran, the sound of his laughter echoing behind me.

Close enough to feel the warmth of his body, but not so close that he could retreat. “So you’re gay?” I asked, voice low. Stevan lifted his gaze, and for a second I was caught off guard by the smile that broke across his face—different from the shy ones before. Softer. Unprepared. Almost boyish. Before I could even process it, he raised his hand and brushed the tip of his finger against my lips. The touch was fleeting. Innocent. And completely unexpected from him. A sharp shiver ran down my spine, far stronger than it had any right to be over something so simple. It hit me like a spark against dry tinder.

His eyes darken again, just like they did in the car, the first time he saw the three distinctive marks left on my skin. My increased healing ability mean the marks are already likely fading, but Steven glares at them with the same ferocity as if they were fresh. “Steven,” I whisper. The air feels charged now, so much different than it had only a few seconds ago. Everything is electric, prickling lightly at my skin. My body is warming from the inside out. My relationship with Steven is the most confusing. With the others, we have sex, we enjoy it, that’s that. Steven is waiting for his forever. He wants sex with love. He can never love me so we are at a standstill.
