He flushed the toilet and walked out of it even though he hadn't used it to throw Marie off his scent. “Who's on his way to jail?” She asked the minute he emerged from the bathroom.

There was no way one could be satisfied. Javier predicted that Steve would be the same, claiming that the vaccine did not pass this time and asking for 60-80 thousand dollars, and then he would seek another reason the next time. With a different excuse each time to mess with him and getting increasingly demanding and in Javier’s face, it was only a matter of time for Steve to anger Javier. In that case, Javier thought he might as well take care of Steve first and save the latter the chance of rousing his fury. Javier pulled out his phone and published a quest in the black market before pocketing the device.

His jaw twitched as if he wanted to say more, maybe shout, maybe beg louder, maybe even cry, but the sound of Steven’s feet thudding down the stairs cut through the tension. I exhaled a breath I didn’t realize I’d been holding. Steven burst into the living room, bag slung over his shoulder, his grin wide. “I’m ready now!” He stopped midway when he saw Jay standing stiff beside me. His head tilted a little, suspicion clouding his innocent eyes. “Uncle Jay?” Jay tried to force a smile, though it looked strained. “Hey, champ.” I reached out, brushing Steven’s shoulder gently. “Perfect timing, Steven,” I said softly. “I was just about to leave for my appointment. You’ll have fun with Uncle Jay,

Derren replied. Steven got up from the bed and stood up straight. He only had his trousers on, leaving his top half open completely. His torso and arms were stained with bruise marks from the cables and pipes that were stuck to his body during his time with Professor Joseph. “Governor Gerald, Professor Joseph, and Evelyn are going to die by my hands. For the sake of Gregory and for the sake of all the people they put through so much pain because of their selfish goals, I'm going to make sure they pay,” Steven said, his voice laced with anger as he tightened his fist.

“Breaking and entering, falsifying another’s signature, falsifying documents, and embezzling funds. I’m sure this is enough for a few years in the slammer, don’t you think?” Steven’s eyes went wide. He burst out of his seat and said, “Why won’t you let me go? I’ve already hidden myself away in the Southside. Why did you have to come after me?” I leaned back in my seat and tore off the protective tape on my face, revealing my healing burns. I looked at him and said, “Don’t forget who started this.”
