"Now that... that’s a cake." I arched my brow. "Of course you'd pick the flavor that needs an age restriction." "It’s bold, mysterious. Like me." "You forgot 'high-maintenance'." We all chuckled. Then, Genevieve pointed to a third plate. “And finally, a strawberry champagne cake with a sweet cream frosting. A little bit of celebration in every bite.” Naomi practically snatched that one off the platter. “Mine!” she declared, and we all laughed. Naomi took a forkful and squealed.

"I'll be back late. I'm not expecting anyone." And then he was gone and about an hour late Gracie too left. It was just me and Liyana in the huge, silent mansion and so we decided to bake. The kitchen was a professional space but I learnt how to navigate it in no time. "What kind of cookies should we bake?" I asked, pulling a stool over for Liyana to stand on. "Strawberry!" she hollered as she reached for the bottle of pink sprinkles. "Ah, ah, ah," I said, gently taking her hand. "Remember love bug? Strawberries make your tummy and your skin have a big, angry party. We can't invite them."

But it was good they didn't go, they wouldn't have gotten such a lovely time alone otherwise. That doesn't mean they didn't enjoy themselves! Although Alex messed up the oven and burned the first badge of cookies during the process of learning, they successfully baked some in the end. Not to forget some kitchen romance!

She guessed that Rowena probably liked to eat them. Those candies were practically impossible to find now. Even though the packaging seemed very simple and old, it was actually well-made. Rowena could not stand ginger by itself, but she liked those ginger candies. As for why the ginger candies did not taste like ginger, she had heard that it was a secret. The old man who made those candies was already in his seventies, and he was the only one who knew how to make them. Rowena would prepare a bag of them before her period every month.

It grated him to think that the people he would soon lead had so little initiative that they wouldn’t even venture the distance to collect fallen wood.
