I should be grateful right now because it's a Saturday and there will be no work to do but I can't celebrate right now because it's the day where I will let go of my freedom and will start to have a boring life with Uno Saldivar as my husband, and me, as his wife. I don't get him, alright. The last time we met, he acted so strangely. Why did he suddenly left when he found out that I want to get married in a different country? I blinked, forcing out a weak smile. "Uh… surprise?" Grace grabbed her head. "Oh, no. No, no, no. Do you even know what you just did?!"

she kept on yelling, her voice filled with excitement and I giggled again before wrapping my arms around her too and kissing her on the temple. “I missed you, too, Sasha. A great deal,” I replied, and she pulled back to look at me. “Then where the hell did you go without even a goodbye?” she asked, and Mr Freddie joined us. “Exactly what I asked her to” he agreed with her and I took a moment to look at the both of them while they waited for me to spill my reason for suddenly disappearing. “This is a crazy thing to say, and you might not believe me either, but… I got married.” I finally let it out, and Sasha’s eyes almost bulged out of her sockets.

I felt a wave of disappointment wash over me. As i watched Adam wheel himself out of the room, my phone began to ring. I saw that it was Jasmine, my best friend, calling. I took a deep breath and answered the phone. "Hey, girl!" Jasmine's cheerful voice came through the line. "What's up? You coming to the club tonight?" I hesitated, not sure what to say. "I don't know, Jasmine," i said slowly. "I'm married now, and I don't think it's a good idea to be seen going out to clubs."

Achingly possible. But as I finally turn toward home and pull into the familiar road of Santino’s estate wide, clean, beautiful, dripping money from every blade of grass, I feel the fantasy break apart inside me. Reality hits me like a stone dropped in water. I am married. Really married. Legally tied. Emotionally tangled. Socially trapped.

Partly because I needed it. Partly because I did not know what else to do with myself. The hot water loosened the tightness in my shoulders, but it did not untangle the weirdness in my chest. The car ride to the airport was suffocatingly silent. The only sound was the low hum of the engine and the faint rhythm of the tires against the road.
