Summer nodded vigorously before ambling towards the office. She breathed a sigh of relief once she was inside the building. Dabbing her forehead with a handkerchief, she hurried towards her cubicle. “You look like you ran a marathon,” Hannah commented as Summer powered on the computer. She takes a huge gulp from her water bottle which Barbara had stuffed inside her bag and looked at her friend. Well, Hannah claimed they were friends. Summer wouldn’t know. She had never been privileged enough to have friends. “I...thought I was late,” she replied slowly, steadily. Hannah nodded before turning back to her work.

After Summer had left for England, She arrived the university and was assisted to her dorm room. She shared a room with a New Yorker named Octavia. They were in the same faculty and in turn became friends. Leo, William, Drake and Stephanie also left for college. During the Holidays they would all return home. Summer didn’t associate with them much because she was beyond busy, any little opportunity she gets she put it into her business. The only time she was spotted was on Sandra’s wedding day and the naming ceremony for Sandra’s baby.

“Are you interested in some props for the Last Day of Summer Fest? We offer free juice and photos on the side.” “When is the day?" “Pardon?” Valentina looked over at her like she was staring at a grade two child. “When is the fest?” Colleen had no idea so she looked to Tobias for help and thankfully, he answered. “21st of this month. A few superstars like Johnny Crane, and Naomi Statham will be in attendance. I would recommend you get a summer hat for the occasion but unfortunately, we’re sold out. So, how about a tee shirt?”

A smile crossed her lips, the details flowing and coming together in her head. “And what about timing? Before or after baby?” “Oh, this summer, for sure. If I could make that happen, call everyone home, get all our friends and Jacob’s family over here… Ugh! That would be absolute perfection!” The dreamy look on Jessie’s face was almost too much and Aiden couldn’t keep it a secret any longer. She looked between Jessie and Jacob then. “Both of you on the same page with this? For real, real?” When they both exchanged a look and nodded, Aiden couldn’t help the grin that crossed her lips. “Well then. Consider it done.”

Summer Love. I didn't think the summer part mattered. Sure we did fall in love during the summer. That doesn't mean I didn't expect it to last past that. It didn't matter to me that he was Nathan Kalis's school-bad boy. To me, he was just Nathan. The man couldn't go more than ten minutes before demanding a kiss. What do normal people do when they come to Crete for a summer vacation? They probably post photos on I*******m with captions like "Sun, sea, sand #blessed," sip ouzo in the evenings, smash plates, and just soak up that effortless island vibe. And what am I doing? I’m covering my ears with my hands, counting prime numbers backward in my head, and trying not to lose my absolute mind. I am in a literal marathon to stay sane.

Instead, my little Summer is there, stirring into a pot of cream sauce and the smell in here is highly concentrated, thus, it is divine. "What are you doing, Summer?" I ask, shock evident in my voice. "Spaghetti bolognese? As an Italian, I guessed you would appreciate a home-cooked meal like that," Summer explains, turning into the pot. Walking up to her, I plant a kiss on the side of her sweaty neck and salt hits my taste buds. I don't mind, just kiss her a little more until she moans softly, her hands unconsciously stirring the pot. "Do you need help with anything?" I ask wanting to help out.

Tell me quick what to do. Rachel: Shower and bathe every crevice in your body and douse yourself with that jasmine scent you love. He'll love it when he peels you out of your clothes. Wear one of your tank tops so he can get an eyeful of your cleavage and have a hell of a time. Oh and wear your hair loose. Autumn bit her lip, hesitant to voice the fear she'd pushed back. But if she couldn't ask practical Rachel, who then? Autumn: What if my age turns him off? I don't think he knows how old I am, really.

She shows me a piece of yellow bikini that's extremely eye-catching. "I'm sure you're going to rock in it," I answer with a smile. "Miami chicks, better watch out for your men," she screams her usual lines, forcing a smile out of me, before breaking into a heavy sigh. "Even if I can't have Liam, this has been the best summer ever." Can we not talk about Liam?

It always feels like this small town of mine knows when it’s about to be the first day of summer, and I can't help but wonder, what now? What is next? Hhhph?... Watercolor loves adventure. children on bikes with ice cream dripping from their palms? New lovers and summer flings, kissing behind abandoned storage units and big, thousand-year-old rocks on the beach? Lost shoes after midnight benders and candy flipping, innocence washed away with the waves, never to be retrieved again...the list can go on for days, seventy-seven days to be exact. Maybe...just maybe. I wonder what this summer is going to be like with a killer on the loose.
