Jack said he understood and had promised to handle everything. That was only when I was able to relax. I completely trusted Jack could handle it. Just then Anna came out of the bathroom wrapped in a towel. Her hair was wet and her skin was warm from the shower. She sat on the edge of the bed and reached for her body lotion. Then I smelled her perfume. It was floral and warm. The same lavender perfume she always used. But after the shower it seemed stronger. I felt my body tense up as her scent suddenly turned me on.

I could feel her trembling, her walls clenching around nothing, her breath coming in ragged gasps. "Sana—" I breathed. "Don't stop—" I didn't. I increased my pace, my hips rolling against hers. His eyes lingered uncomfortably on our chests. I felt a wave of disgust at their forwardness. They were just teenagers trying to hit on women in a bar. I was too disheartened to care though and simply turned away, ignoring them. However, Summer, with her fiery temper, faced the young boys head-on. "Get lost! We're not interested in entertaining kids," she snapped. She was always straightforward and didn’t mince words with people she disliked. The youths, who looked youthful but not good-natured, reacted with anger. One of them advanced toward Summer, grabbing her shoulder aggressively, while the other one approached me with an inappropriate leer.

A beat later, Brandon’s voice snapped back clear. “Dude, check your messages. Just sent you a pic. You’re gonna thank me.” I didn’t want to thank him. But the screen blinked with a new message. A photo. I opened it. The place was a boil of light—neon, sweat, bodies hovered in groups. And there, center frame… Summer. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I flinched as I zoomed in. A skimpy black dress hugged her like it had been poured on. Thin straps bit into her shoulders, neckline plunging so low it left almost nothing to the imagination. I brought you a gift to remind you of home." The camera panned out. There, tied to a chair on the deck of the submarine, was a figure. Summer. The girl had clearly been drugged; her head lolled to the side, and her skin was a sickly, ashen grey. The bandages on her wrists were stained with fresh blood. As the camera zoomed in, she began to thrash weakly, her eyes wide with terror, tears and blood mingling on her cheeks.

“Sorry, but we don't have time for this, Nathan you and Noah have to set up the barbecue. Liam, you go and bring in the bags from your car. Quinn, you go get a shower, and I’ll pick out an outfit for you. Summer gave up all our instructions then clapped her hands when we didn't all move fast enough. I ran up the stairs and into the shower, and I couldn't help thinking about how the last time I was in this shower, I was terrified to meet my mate, thinking it was Xavier, and now I could be wait to mate and mark with him. A knock on the door signaled it was eight. “That must be Arie and Leah!” Summer squealed. She opened the door to find not just Arie and Leah, but Alpha Marcus and Darren as well.
