~Valerie~ The afternoon sun is a mockery. It streams through my bathroom window, bright and cheerful, while I stand shivering in front of the mirror. I lean in close, my breath fogging the glass as I peel back the edge of the silk scarf. The bruise has deepened. What was a mild, red mark yesterday is now a heavy, plum-colored stain, a violent masterpiece of Ronan’s teeth. It looks like a brand. No amount of concealer is going to hide this, the skin is too tender, the color too wild.

I let out a sharp breath and pushed the bedsheet away. “I really thought it was dye, I promise.” I defended myself, though not with much confidence, feeling quite confused. I truly believe that was bleach. I believed it was simply the natural shade of blue that would make it appear whiter. “Take a look,” she said, pulling out the bleach she had brought and opening it for me to see. It is nearly colorless, much like water. I trembled in disbelief; this was worse than anything I had ever experienced.

I took off the blazer and placed it on the marble counter, while I dampened a piece of paper and began to smear the stain, with no result. I started to sweat lightly, already in agony. I pulled my hair into a bun, using my own blonde strands to hold it together. So I took some liquid soap and ran it over the fabric that sheltered my chest. The fabric, but while rubbing the sleeve of the blazer inside out hard, the red stain began to come out. I heard the sound of the door opening and looked in the mirror who arrived. And I expected anything but a man... Or rather, less “that man”.
